God I hated driving that thing. Almost as much as I hated riding in the back of it.

 

I wanted an M35 transport when I was younger. I kinda still do. They are so cheap now. I think it would be fun to have a giant truck like that.

Yeah, I would have rather be driving than riding in the back. But I'd rather be driving a 5-ton with power steering than the Deuce and 1/2

Got to drive both more than I would have liked

 

Former Army 88M here, I know every accessible inch of those things! I would love to have one!!

Not so smooth in the ride department, but hard to get stuck, impossible to hurt and no key required. Guess that would be considered early "comfort access" system.

True, although bolt cutters were a good idea. I know our master driver was always loosing the keys to the padlocks on the steering wheels.

 

Bolt cutters = 'master key'

The Suburbans, OTOH.... I probably still have a key around here for those. LOL

 

The chain and pad lock welded to the floor always cracked me up. We had a flat piece of sheet metal, with a hole in each end that we hooked over the door handles of the cargo and pilots door, securing it with a pad lock to keep folks out of the Huey's. :cornut:

This rig has been around for at least 10 years now and it is at the base of Los Flores Cyn rite next to PCH. When i first saw it it was in perfect shape, polished wheels and trim with a sparkling black paint. Of course sitting outside 24/7 that close to the ocean takes its tole . As far as driving them , I spent a bit of time behind the wheel and you do get the feeling that there isn't much that can stop you .
