Pretty interesting comparison there. Looks like the lap times are darn close, but the way they get there are different.
They look real close. I don't know if it was the P2s camera mount or not but it sure seemed like the rougher ride.
^^^ Runflat tires...... Crappy camera mount, me thinks. Nice video, to my eyes they look pretty equal. Wonder what the lap times look like.
Reports say the DPs came away significantly faster thanks to a bump in engine power, carbon brakes and all that aero plus reducing weight for the DPs while adding it to the P2s. The balancing was supposed to include making the P2s run different aero as well but I don't think any of them had it. So, they overshot and now re-balancing is expected. Of course, all that is on hold until they figure out whether they can blame tires, aero or both (and/or something else) for the Corvette DP crashes. What makes this balancing so difficult is it isn't just about ultimate lap times, it's also about reducing some of the differences in how the two formulas make those times. You don't want significant speed and/or other performance differences on different parts of the same track between cars in the same class. I think I would love that because it would make for lots of action but they figure it would also greatly increase the opportunities for incidents, etc, if one can easily blast past on the straights while the other is significantly better in the twisty bits and has to fight to take the spot back there, lap after lap. Unfortunately, the difficulty factor of this balancing biz is now even greater due to uncertainty following the incidents on the first day of the Daytona test.
Just because the DPs were faster at Daytona, with all the high speed sections, doesn't mean they will be faster on tighter road courses.
True, and I imagine that's one reason why they test at both Daytona and Sebring. According to this article on the Sebring test: That's not necessarily telling much about relative ultimate pace since this is just testing and there's no way to be sure who was pushing limits, who was evaluating different parts and setups......who was sandbagging, if anyone at this point. If Dalziel is right, that would put their P2 about 2sec slower than the quickest DP. At Sebring.
So now we have 4 classes. The top class with 12 DPs, 4 P2s, and maybe 2 delta wings. The P2s are only from 2 teams. Why bother at all. Gainsco/Stallings isn't even in the class. The challenge call with spec cars. Yawn Then 2 GTs. One for factory efforts and one for private teams. These will be the best to watch. What happens to the other classes? I guess they are all pushed to Continental Challenge or will jump to Pirelli WC. I thing the PWC will be growing and provide better racing.
You'd think IMSA (International Money Spending Association) could do a better promo for their series.
