    Actually I have heard of somebody with some serious soldering and computer skills replacing one fried amplifier circuit on a ECU board responsible for providing the necessary voltage to one of the coils on an R56 engine. Had the actual board suffered any damage it would have been a different story.

    @RallyMini370

    Extremely happy that you found the problem, it must have been a eureka moment to have the test car suffer the exact same symptoms. Has anybody attempted or examined your ECU circuit board to determine if indeed it can be repaired?

    Sounds like a clean bill of health for your electrical system. How dd the tune file get corrupted though? I imagine it must have been on some sort of (Solid State??) Drive and maybe some of the sectors went bad??

    Glad the puzzle has been solved Way to go!!! Your flip could have caused the ECU brain damage. :wink:

    I'm sure there's going to be a difference. The programing can change a lot with this engine.

    I never thought to investigate what it is exactly but when we bought our Mini it came equipped with some performance gimmick that has a switch button. If i press it once the switch turns green and the car accelerates a lot quicker. If i press it for the second time the button turns red and the engine picks up so fast the rpm needle gets in the red in what seems like an eyeblink.

    I use it sparingly because i want the car to last but sometimes if some other driver is a dick because they think they can out accelerate me i kindly unconfuse them about it.

    So I called the ECU guy to see what corrupted the tune file. He was pretty vague with the answers. Saying mostly it could be a voltage thing when the file was up-loaded or some other voltage error within the ECU or a sensor feeding the info to the ECU. He said we see this as a common fault but don't really know what causes it. We replace the faulty chips, re-load the file and this cures it.

    Which leaves the cause pretty much wide open! Seeing as I replaced all the sensors I'm hoping the fault does not return.

    Lucky for me a CR engineer is in MA so he can bring the ECU tomorrow! Roll on the weekend!

    I never worked on no ECM but i do have some experience with computers and i don't see how input from sensors could corrupt the file, and if was not uploaded correctly why did it take that long to develop symptoms? The voltage error within the ECU sounds plausible to an extend. Good think you have the warranty. But i wouldn't worry to much.

    On the phone with the Tech this morning. Super nice guy and a 2001 MC owner...with a Midland Gearbox issues..Hahaha. Anyway back to the plot. They send out the EWS/EMU/Key married together but on rare occasions the marriage is disrupted! AKA divorced? haha so based on my past luck I'm that rare occasion! He told me there is a super nice software that they use to marry the codes. He is going to send it but the only issue is I need a OBD II/USB box to communicate with the EWS/EMU from my lap top. I have a OBD II cable but we are not sure if it will work with this software. Tonight will be the test.

    Awwwww thanks! 3 months later I'm still at it...ah for the love of the Mini! I'm still waiting for the file from the Tech but checking online this is a nifty software called INPA being used by BMW owners.. here's a Mini2 link but there is tons of BMW links.

    I used the works internet which for Costa Rica is pretty fast. So I hooked up the laptop to the OBD II port with no idea what I'm supposed to do! The ECU tech didn't tell me how to use it so after an hour I gave up and drank some wine. I called them this morning and told to get this problem fixed ASAP. My patience is running out.

    Been on the "dog and bone" meaning phone to the tech. He says I have the wrong OBD II cable. So he is going to send some links for the cable and a video of how to fix the codes. Exciting stuff!
