I looked on youtube and found a link to install the software with the help of the IS guy. Seems I needed to click a few buttons. Going to try it tonight.
Thanks for the good wishes but the Mini has other ideas! I got the software and OBD cable to work..that was the good news! the bad news is the I cannot reset the system because an error pops up that the controller was now found. Which I think means the software cannot see the EWS/EMU....so once again the Mini wins! Fear not....while looking for a cable in CR I got in contact with a rally guy from the US who lives here and guess what? he reprograms BMW's for a living woooo hooooo so I'm going to contact him as he arrives back in CR today.
Charming, the tech is away until next Monday so I'll have to wait until then!! OMG excellent customer service. Looking online it seems my Chinese Amazon cable could be the problem. Seems the BMW's lads have the same issues and blame the poorly made cable and software. Mmmm as always you get what you paid for. I hope the rally dude in CR can come to the rescue.
I sincerely hope your CR guy can solve your dilemma. You have gone through enough Hell trying to get this resolved!:fingerscrossed:
Hollywood has got nothing on real life !! You just couldn't make up all the ebb and flows of this thread. Once again best wishes on what hopefully is the final leg of your quest.
Thanks, I like to think positive..after some wine! At least I'm learning things. I have a little more understanding to what the INPA is and how to install it even though it does not work..hahahahahaha
I have done a lot of research on installing the INPA software with last night being successful as I did not have any errors. The only issue is the cheapo OBD II/USB cable. I had put in in the USB post 10 times before the computer would see it. Then when I connect it up to the OBD post the red light flickers and goes out. The nice thing about this software is you have a lot menu's to check things. Anyway the cable is going back to Amazon . Just waiting for the rally dude to show up. Here's a demo to give you an idea of the features [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhNIT_aFM4o"]Bmw E46 Inpa Diagnostic - YouTube[/ame]
You're all waiting like me for the engine to run again.....The rally dude came over, plugged in his $3000 scan tool, reset everything and bingo the engine fired up on the first turn. Woooooooooooo hooooooooooooo I did a merry dance..............then I said let me check the engine at 3000rpm. I did and yeap the fault is still there.....the tech ran a few tests with the scan tool having the only error code as multi-cylinder misfire......same crap as before. He said this was a strange error which he was going to ask around for a cure. Meanwhile the ECU will be off back to FL to be checked again. I thinking engine wiring loom to change next and a crank sensor. Sorry folks to be the bearer of bad news.
A dramatic friend compared this sort of maddening shade tree (+) diagnostic work to being a blind boxer. Let me see if I can remember enough to do justice to his analogy. You feel your way around the ring searching for any clue where to swing (or swing next). You know your opponent is there, confined within the ring, but you don't know exactly where because you can't see him. Even when you think you have him located, you can't be certain but you have to take a swing anyway, just in case. When you get so close that he's standing right in front of you, you probably don't know it. You occasionally get a piece of him but only rarely and it's a glancing blow that has no significant effect. Very frustrating until you finally take a swing that makes real contact...assuming you have enough stamina to hold out until that finally happens... Like I said, he has a flair for the dramatic. Still, not far off...unfortunately.
