I won't pull the wool over anyone's eyes. Motoring Alliance is a for profit venture. However, it's not built to eek out every penny possible. Potential sponsors have been turned down. I've turned down a host of affiliate programs that would add links in posts or place banner ads.
I'm in this for the long haul. There are no share holders that need to be appeased every quarter. Earnings are put back into the site for the most part, when possible the other admins get what amounts to beer money and you'll see M/A helping to sponsor such events such as AMVIV, MOTD, Mini Meets East and other events when I can. After that the ultimate goal is to cover the cost of a few track days a year. I do intend to stick to my guns on this stuff and not sell out to every advertiser that holds out a check.
Shameless self promotion...

WOW
This thread certainly grew some legs over the past three weeks. Interesting to read it through start to finish and absorb all that is said. I expected other vendors in my shoes to agree, and the side trips about net advertising policies are interesting, but the best input for me is from the consumer members. I stated earlier and I repeat, price shopping was/is ok with me, and I am happy to take your money to get those parts CORRECTLY installed for you, and I am happy you have respect for our abilities as technicians to bring them to us after scoring whatever great parts deal you got.
My beef was/is with how the parts manufacturers treated us, and I wanted to expose to the consumers/price shoppers a little of what goes on. It appears I reached my core audience, at least on this site. Scottinbend, nice to hear your encouraging words about CCC, I tired to do a "RIGHT" business, where folks felt they got treated well and with respect, even if they bought somewhere else. I believe the people reading this who are shoppers now have a better feel for how and why they see parts here and there really cheap, and what those of us who are not hobbyists, but actual repair professionals, think of it. I have been offered a really nice space here in Thousand Oaks, Ca. to reopen and go forward with a larger repair business, and I am exploring it. It would be MINI focused but we are diagnostic specialists with our Airbag Service biz, and that will figure into it as well as a new name to eventually include other "handling" vehicles.
Thanks for the coments and participation in this thread,
keep it coming! -
