I had a cool idea for a tachometer detail. I have always loved vintage gauges on motorcycles or older sports cars. This is a hack photoshop job with a stock photo, but let me know what you think. I could maybe buy another gauge face plate and use strips of vinyl to make it.
So I spoke with a custom vinyl shop in town a while back and the owner gave me some tips and a small sheet of red vinyl. Things aren't going so well, so I might have to have the guy do it for me. He said it would only cost about $25 to do. But I've been sick lately so I can't leave the house.
If you want, I could cut the vinyl for you in whatever color you want. I've already got the dimensions and graphics files for tachs. This would be for an r53 right?
Yeah, an R53. Thank you for the offer. How much for your work? They will be individual stickers for each stripe, right?
Some of the inspiration for this. Toyota MR2 Some unknown 80's Toyota 1978 Honda Civic 1968 Toyota Sports 800 Maybe I need black gauge faces with white LEDs.
Grey maybe? http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/1st-generation-parts-sale/1591-outmotoring-gray-gauge-faces.html
I have the OutMotoring gray faces. Now you've got me thinking of maybe trying something like this in a shade of blue to match the rest of the car.
So I finally have a free day and I'm going to try to put one of these on. Special thanks to [email protected] for the computer cut vinyl, and Nathan for the extra gauge face. I might go with the solid red at first. But I'd like to try out the stripes too. Yet I don't want to take the tach needle off too many times because it might not stay secure after a while.
It is done. I fail as a photographer though. It looks pretty good. I'm sure someone else could have aligned it slightly better, but it seems as if the vinyl stretched a little as I applied it. I had to pull and reapply it a few times to get it as close as I could.
I saw a vintage Healey racer with the word BANG just past redline along with a dollar sign. Can't find the picture I took, but here's another. It would be pretty cool to have a pounds Stirling sign with wings just past redline. Nice job with the tach face.
crashton that pic is funny as hell...im trying to do something similar with my classic mini...trying to nail down the redline on it so i can put something similar...i dont always look at the tach but having that bright red redline marker would surely help
