I'm going to be looking in the near future for a few things for the MINI. First off, some vinyl stripes and possibly a roof piece. Also wanting to get some wraps for the trim pieces. Would like to find a place that can work with some custom colors and also that has quality. I don't want my vinyl cracking in a few years. Share your experiences with some different companies. Note: will probably be doing the installation work myself.
Oddly, I have noticed that just four years ago, when I got my MINI, stripes and roof graphics were the in thing, but the trend seem to be dying off, at least for the roof graphics. Other then Cooper Flags (who is a sponsor here) and I have never bought from them, I am not sure who else is doing them. there is a member here, (N2MINI) in NC, who does stripes. Jim
Mighty Stripes is another. The trend these days is people seem to be going locally to sign shops that also do wraps. They have the materials to make whatever most people want.
Thanks guys! I didn't even think of going to a sign shop. I'll have to check out a couple in the area.
I had Todd from toddsmods.com (and Whiteroof radio) cut my replacement stripes and I installed them myself..
I don't know where your located but there is a shop here in Fort Wayne, IN. that also owns a MINI dealership in Pittsburg (so I am told) that's wanting to get more involved in custom MINI work. They did great work, I had them install the vinyl, and they were also great to work with. I would highly recommend them! Here is what they did for me... I autocross so I had them add the numbers. They told me they would be willing to ship anywhere in the U.S. If you are interested PM me and I will get you their contact info.
That's about 3 and a half hours north of here. If I could get them to send the vinyl here (just south of Louisville, KY) though that would be awesome.
Most any of your local shopping sign shops can do it. they may or may not be willing to install them on your car. Most don't have a garage to work in, the bigger shops do of course.. Just make sure you are getting premium cast vinyl... 3M, Arlon, Oracal, to name a few.. Each make a good, better, best grade per se!!
It looks like DINOC is easy to work with, but I can't find it in a wide range of colors. I also know that some lets the air out from the surface, so no bubble problem. What are good "brand names" to use for tight corners like door rings and dash panels? Jim
I had Cooper Flags make my stripes for my other car and I had my dealership install them. My friend works there and is their vinyl guy.
The 3M Di-noc is wonderfull stuff, but very pricey!!!! Wrapping vinyl is alittle more money compared to regular vinyl.. The regular cast vinyl will stretch plenty enough to do stripes and most graphics on a MINI.. but if your looking to say cover your whole roof you'd want some like you said that will let the air out. Some manufactures call it "Control Tac" has like a cross hatch lines in it to help ease the air out as you apply it.. Can't see them once done but you can on the sticky side beforehand of course..
Todd does awesome work it's just really hard to get a hold of him. He does all the graphics for our dealership and does wraps for the time warner cable trucks in our area.
Anyone know of a good vinyl guy in the Reno/ Tahoe area? Sacramento is not out of the question either if highly recommended. Thanks for the help and sorry for possibly hijacking this thread. :cornut:
I just found, what looks like, a good source for vinyl. Talked to them and planning to place an order. Jim Rvinyl.com - Tint & Auto Accessories
You can order a sample of the vinyl to see what the actual color is. I did and it is a very close match to my car. The wraps are very flexible and will do tight corners. I'm going to place an order. Jim
Sounds like some good stuff for my trim pieces. I would like some colored carbon fiber but will settle for a solid color.
