Hey guys, I never have gotten into the habit of posting here on MA, but those of you who have attended MOTD in the past may have met me, as I tend to work registration & man the door for dinners, etc. I made the following post on Sunshine MINIs and decided I should probably repeat it here as well... With the possibility that 129 may still be closed when we arrive, I want to make a public appeal to everyone in our group. The folks down at the Deal's Gap Store have been very accommodating to us in the past, even going so far as to donate raffle prizes for our events, etc. These folks count on tourism for nearly 100% of their income. With 129 being closed, they could be hurting severely, just when business should be picking up for the Summer. With our group being one of the largest to visit the area all year, we can make both a difference to their bottom line, and a statement of support by going to the Deal's Gap Store whether 129 is open or not. Their restaurant serves cheap meals, and they have all sorts of souvenirs available- shirts, stickers, license plate frames, etc., etc. (They even have some MINI-specific stickers, in case you weren't aware) So, here's to hoping that 129 is open by the time we get there. But even if it's not, I think I'm going to hit the Deal's Gap store once or twice MORE than usual, just to make sure I've done my part to keep them up & running. Who's with me? Added by Snooter 4/3/2010: Maybe we can have a unoffical "Lunch Run to Deals Gap" each day. If you find yourself hanging around Fontana around 11:30am, just head over the General Store, see who else is there and head over to Deals Gap for Lunch and Drive on the Hellbender
There is nothing like a nice spirited drive across 28 (Hellbender) to shake out the cobwebs with a stop at the Gap Store for an inexpensive yet tasty breakfast.
they have some cool stickers too!! and they will offering a discount in our "new for 2010 coupon page" in everyone's registration package this year
The food at the restaurant is several notches above fast food, especially if they have trout sandwiches (usually fresh cuz they're locally caught).... I lunch there upon my arrival, then hit the store. They have great stuff, so be sure to eat and shop at Deal's Gap....also known as the Crossroads of Time. The Tree of Shame is also there...definitely worth a pic or two. Across the street from the motorcycle resort is Tail of the Dragon retail stuff...very cool stuff there too, so don't miss it! It's also a nice place to just hang out on a sunny day...lots of good people watching/meeting. You can actually make a day of it....I have in the past, and enjoyed it immensely.
Myself, my hubby and Clubby are staying at Deal's Gap! I talked with Michelle there at the "Motorcycle Resort" - and she was VERY accomodating and helpful even warning that the Dragon will likely be "closed" I told her we are still coming to drive as many roads there in the area as possible! So I'm glad to hear about the good food there!
kgdblu had a great idea (I also added it to Bills first post). Maybe we could have a impromtu lunch run each day to Deals Gap. So if your hanging around Fontana and your itchen for some food and a drive, meet up at the General Store at 11:30am, see who else is there and head over to Deals Gap for lunch
LOL...barry, I know you think of me as "kgblu", but it's kgDblu....no biggie, really. just don't folks to get confused.
