Thought i'd post a few pictures of my new setup. I decided to go with Vmaxx coilovers, mainly because of their street ability and they're cheap! So far, so good. They drop way more than I would ever want. I expected a rougher ride, but I cannot tell any real difference in ride comfort when compared to my stock sport suspension...if anything, it may be a bit smoother. There is a noise that seems to be coming from the right rear over bumps at slow speeds..I still need look at that and see what the deal is.... other than that, I can't complain. The brakes are amazing. The crap drilled/slotted rotors I had before can't even compare. These came right off a brand new R56. Not only did I get the larger fronts, I went ahead and took the rears as well. I added steel braided lines while I was at it. I don't recall ever seeing anyone doing a full R56 swap (just the fonts). Mainly because it is not necessary due to them being the same size, and they only do a small percentage of the braking, but most importantly...they don't fit. With a bit of ingenuity and cutting, they can of course be made to work. enough talk...here are some pics. vmaxx coilover and r56 brakes R56 brake on the rear, being test fitted to make work:incazzato: lowered about half capacity. Rear finally on with wheel and my current ride height....still trying to find the threshold of comfort/low my car is way too dirty, so i'll try to post whole car pics later. Just wanted to share since i'm unaware of a full r56 brake swap, and i never knew i would be so excited to stop my car.:cornut:
Nice, I was looking at the Vmaxx's. Just got to get some money saved up then a nice DROP follows. How are you liking the coilovers still?
Anyone interested in these V-Maxx coil-overs should definitely check Ryephile's Product Review V-Maxx coil-over suspension kit for 2002+ MINI in the Library.
Thanks for posting this link. I am still trying to learn how to navigate this site so the link was very helpful.
The V-Maxx's are the new lowering spring, IMO. They're inexpensive enough to afford and offer full suspension travel at a lowered ride height.
your write up is what sold me on them. I didnt want to dump 1-2k on coilovers because i wanted a bit of a drop, that offered adjustability and still comfortable on the street. Since I don't track my car, this seemed like the perfect solution. I sold my H&R springs and I am loving the ability to adjust my height...i am still trying to find that perfect ride height though.:ihih: as mentioned in the article. it is a shame that they didn't include a 2nd wrench or instructions.
MUshadd, Just a quick question... Will the R56 Sport Suspension fit on an R52? or just the R56 Springs? I did numerous search on forums and found nothing. Thank you, Lorin INIMINI
I think the stock ride height is higher on an R56 than an R53, so while the non-adjustable stock suspension isn't interchangeable, coilovers with adjustable ride height are. Good writeup and pics.
thumbs up for the write ups and pixs. thanks for sharing this. I got recently H&R spring but not really contented how it went low. with your reference I think got my answer here! A reasonable coilover to saved up for the next stop.:biggrin5:
