I'm due for service and was wondering if I should remove my oil catch can and exhaust before I go. Will MINI void my warranty? thoughts?
The exhaust shouldn't be a problem, there's no rule that says replacement parts have to be oem. The catch can on the other hand is clearly an engine mod and they can give you a hard time about that if you ever have any engine problems. In the very least it might get in the mechanics way.
It all depends on your dealer. Maybe call in & ask them about their thoughts on modded MINI's. They can void your warranty if they see fit. My dealer here has been very good about not being bothered by most aftermarket mods & parts.
Exactly...... it depends on your dealer and your relationship with them. I am the queen of warranty voiding and I never had an issue with my '09. Now I have no warranty so woohoo!!!!!!!!! :ihih:
They cannot void your entire car warranty. They may deny coverage on a specific part that may be affected by your modification. More info here: What Voids Your Vehicle's Warranty? - Edmunds.com
The catch can is a positive modification for the R56 engine, if your dealer makes a big deal out of it, ask them to clean your carbon out of the engine on MINIs dime. But take the can off before you go in to ask for the walnut special. Don
They might also ask you to pay for the time to remove/replace the OCC if it is in the way of a covered repair.
dr61- yes, maybe not your whole warranty, but I'd guess they could void ones engine warranty & from what I have seen that is the most important warranty on an R56 MCS.
I've had no problems with my dealer, I've had it in for an oil change twice. Before I installed my Oil Catch Can, I asked the service Manager about it, he said it is an alteration to the car's emissions system, but he has seen a lot of them and didn't have a problem with them. Dave
