The '06 MINI is the last of Generation 1 and the S model is said to be the best of the bunch. Not knowing if you have the Cooper or the Cooper S, I'm not sure I can be of any help, but many people here have forgotten more than I shall ever know about the MINI. That said, my wife's '06 MCS had its engine light on recently and all it took for it to go out was to retighten the gas cap!
