Took my Clubby in this morning and the SA mentioned he had the parts so they would do the recall while it was in the shop. I don't think letters have even gone out yet.....I know I haven't gotten one. Chalk another one up for one of the best MINI dealers out there - Baron MINI in KC! I've had consistantly good service and sales experiences there, and I've bought 2 MINIs from them....so far!
I think the letters are just a ploy..... Everyone's been trained to wait for the letter.... Wait for the letter.... Wait for the letter... Meanwhile they are sneaking people in during normal service... While we.... Wait for the letter.... This then reduces their cost burden by tying it in with something else....
Maybe.... There was quite a bit of indrawn breath scarediness over this one the KC forum, I posted a link to the info Nathan posted here and it pretty much stopped the stupidity.... Still, I think MINI has moved pretty quickly once they made the announcement - I didn't expect parts availability till March or so, considering they said they were going to do all the dealer's new and used in-stock cars first.
Just as a note here... Not all dealers are as proactive. Please be sure to check with your dealer before showing up and requesting the water pump recall fix. Many of them will want you to wait until you have the letter in hand before scheduling the service appointment. As the letter arrives to those affected please post on Motoring Alliance so we can see how this all coming along.
Made a few calls today to check parts availability. There are some dealers that have the water pump on the shelf and some that do not as of yet. Some of those that have them on shelf are calling owners in their area, some are not. Some dealers with parts on the shelf will look up your VIN and if on the list will schedule you right away without the letter in hand. Some dealers are waiting till you have the letter in hand and call them, then the parts are ordered. The moral of this story... Call your local MINI dealer and see how they are handling the recall. Please report your experiences so all can see how this is being played out.
Yeah, I'll wait until the hoards have passed. By that time there will be a new found defect affecting all the early adopters of the replacement pump. When my turn comes.... I'll get the new and improved x.xx generation pump....
I was having a coolant leak repaired at Clear Lake Mini in Houston and since I'd read the recall was coming, I asked if they could replace the aux. water pump at the same time. The replacement pumps arrived Wednesday and they replaced it today.
Haven't received letter yet but just :frown2:called MINI of Nashville and was told I had to wait on the letter.
Classic MINI emailed me and told me to schedule an appointment. Hello! Your MINI is involved in a recall campaign to replace an auxiliary water pump. If you have any questions and to schedule an appointment Please call our service department at 440-585-9970 *If you have received this email and have scheduled an appointment please disregard. Thank you, Classic MINI
From posts on MetroplexMINI.org, I believe that one of the Dallas area dealerships is doing the recall work if your car is already in their shop for another reason... "Since you are already here, we took care of this for you."
:cornut: Thanks. That explains 'the no letter' and the 'all too soon' service call on my Tach since the last service session. Jason
I stopped by MINI of Monrovia and they were fine with taking care of the recall. Letter or no letter. I'm waiting until after this next paycheck so I can get some other work done at the same time.
Water pump recall My dealer in Cincinnati called me to set up an appointment, in and out 2hrs with car wash. Very happy!
