I would think a "Metalman" would be able to make one of those, easy peasy.

Is there a reason why it has to be cast? Why not just buy a big old chunk of metal and carve out everything that doesn't look like that part?

Actually.... The only reason I can think of it being cast is it cut's down on the manufacturer's labor hours to make the part.... The casting gets it close to it's finished state with some surfaces getting machined and trued up for flatness and locating pins getting added, and a few holes get drilled and taped. There is also a "quick release" mechanism for the stripper plate that's part of the assembly....

Casting this part is a poor choice of materials from an impact standpoint.....

    So cost trumped reliability.....

Ahhhhh, but reliability or lack of it could possibility generate after purchase sales..... And better yet.... Sales after the warranty expires.... Bruhahaha

Alas.... My warranty has long since expired.... So maybe the original part met it's intended life expectancy....:(

I knew you could just machine it out of a chunk of steel. Then you get the satisfaction of putting it to the manufacturer also.

Maybe there are others out there with the same issue and you could make a little MINI money making spare parts on the side.

Maybe when you are done you can sell them a better made and stronger part and make a little profit.

I worked with a guy nicknamed Stumpy. He lost the front quarter (or third ? give or take) of both of his feet when a faulty multi-ton blast door slammed shut.

Feisty little guy, you could only get away with calling him Stumpy if you did it behind his back. :biggrin5:
