I do not, nor was there a lot of oil in the intercooler when I removed it.
Even if there is oil going through the intake, it does not explain where the smell escapes from what is a pressurized and supposedly closed system.
I'll have a look at the EGR routings on the car. Maybe just a bad hose connection somewhere that blows by under boost. A catch can will be last resort, as I don't think the oil going back in harms the engine. Not one of the must do mods and many have reversed back to not using one due to vacuum issues. It's more of an R56 thing to keep the valves clean.

I have the exact same smell in my 06 with 110k. I've replaced many of the same parts as you as well. Exhaust is next on the list.

Might want to check out the seal on the back hatch.
Take a gander into the battery box. There is a vent from the battery that might not be in place allowing exhaust gasses back into the car. -
I just went and did several WOT pulls, it stinks, it stinks bad. Maybe our minis are half polecat
The smell never got weaker. I did 4 WOT to redline. fishmonger what size pulley do you have?

I'd advise against an oil catch can. I'd be a rich man, if I had a dollar for every person I heard say "wish I never did that mod"
OK, I'd have about $10. But still... -

I'm happy with my catch can, but then, I have a different series MINI than Fishmonger.

I have a first gen and run a catch can. As long as it is installed on the proper line you won't have any issues.

new belt, ATI damper, idler and tensioner this summer
I did completely clean my IC this summer in a bath of Simple Green, so it doesn't have long-term gunk caked on the inside. The boost reported to the ECU is 14.5 psi at about 5k rpm when I had a chance to glance at the numbers. Might even go higher, but I don't like getting near redline.
Everyone's rear hatch seal not working?
I am wondering if smell enters through about those rear vent holes below the hatch for cabin air exit. Those may actually suck air in if the sunroof is open and creates negative pressure in the cabin. -

When you drive a convertible for 15+ years, you tend to not get as fixated on strange smells and sounds...
