Well after a day and night in the shop she's now got a new clutch, flywheel, and a high pressure fuel pump. Last week Friday on the way home had the famous half engine symbol pop up. I pulled over and looked under the hood, checked oil, coolant levels. Nothing obvious, so plugged in my ODBII thingy and ran a check and turned up- Engine oil pressure control valve activation:line interruption; super knocking: injection shut down; super knocking cylinder 4 injector shutdown, high-pressure fuel. Cleared the codes and drove home just fine, no light came back on. Checked plug 4 and everything looked fine. They replaced the HPFP after running some test and determined it was failing. I'm glad MINI covers that bitch till 120k, It lasted like 40k and I use nothing but top tier 93. New clutch feels fantastic, very light pedal feel and nice N grabby.

In the market for some new wheel skins as well. Dave, after much thought and consideration, I'll be skipping the Star Specs this go round. That 200 treadwear rating isn't realistic for a daily driver. The Pilot Super Sports were 300 and lasted me just over a year. The Comp 2's on now are 340 and lasted me about 2 years which is a decent enough amount of time. So I'm staying at the same treadwear but I'm leaning towards the Conti Extremecontact sports. Anyone had em?

I have hade my 17% on my R53 for years. I would get rid of that Alta tensioner stop, like as fast as I could. Do the idler pulley when you do the tensioner and get the belt for the 17% pulley. 1376mm / K060532 This belt is a little hard to put on but is best for the 17% pulley.

Did I say get rid of that Alta tensioner stop?????

Sorry to hear about your ordeal, beken. I hate when I try to save a few bucks, and end up paying more in the end.

You never want to lug (high gear / low RPM’s) a MINI up a hill.

Always down shift to a lower gear and enjoy the twisty hill with good higher RPM’s

Washed my wife's S and mine today...it's nice to see their true colors again! Unfortunately, we still have to contend with another 6 weeks of Winter. My S will stay in the garage but her's will get dirty again as we only have a 2 car garage and the Cooper stays put there until warmer weather appears...shudda had an extra bay built when we built the house!:Banghead:

I don't think those bulbs are legal in Texas. I'd have to smuggle them in from Colorado. :)

Had to take the door lock actuator out. Suddenly didn't want to work anymore. Couldn't open the door from the outside or use the remote to lock and unlock it. Good now

The old “Italian Tune-Up” eh? I actually did try that for a bit yesterday. Third gear on the highway makes for some nice high revs. :D

If you fill it and don’t want to wet sand it yourself I can bring my tools to the Dragon and do it for you.

Great info! Thanks Dave. Griots it is. I've been eyeing that one anyhow and I do use lots of Griots products.

Hmm 31 years in this state, split between the Green Bay and Madison area, no tags on my Mini, no tags on my Eclipse in the 90s (240,000 miles with that), and never pulled over for missing front plate. Seems like these days people who are texting easily fills their traffic stop quota.

I have 5mm spacers on my dark silver Mini. Filling the fenders better without going crazy. Hard on bearings? All depends how wide you go. It adds leverage to the wheel beyond spec, but unless you go 25mm out, I can't imagine this being more of an issue than a few percent. I just put new bearings in when I added spacers, so there's going to be plenty of time before I have to do new bearings. I think I'll be adding 12mm spacers to the electric blue this spring, because stock ride height with the stock wheels just looks a bit dorky next to my other car.

The thing I learned is that you really need to measure three times when the car is lowered. The 12mm spacers I bought first were too much for the lowered car. At least visually, I was pretty sure a good bump would mean a big rub, unless I went with an idiotic stancer camber to tuck in the tires.

12mm spacers on 40ET rims with BC coilovers about 1.5" lowered, 16x7.5 and 205/50 tires - too much. The 5mm I replaced them with are not enough, but ther's a dead zone between 7mm and 12mm you can't really get any decent spacers in - you'd lose the centering lip.

On the much taller stock ride height with the stock 17 inch rims (ET 45?), I think the 12mm spacers will be fine. Will know more later in spring when I get it back on the jacks.
