I think I would be in the same boat. As long as it wasn't time consuming and cost a fortune I could probably deal with it. Most of the mods I have done can be undone. Although if I was going to part with GIR I'd have to rip the band aide. Sale would be as is and wanted OEM parts could be factored in.

What mods could be so egregious that prospective buyers would turn their backs on a GP1 ?? And especially on maintained driver. I get it if it’s a extremely low mileage garage queen but all kinds of people lament the fact that it’s a shame that these cars are not driven and enjoyed …. but if they are you have to to replace worn parts with hard to find if your lucky or unobtainium if your not. If you do replace parts with better parts you have in some way destroyed the essence of a factory hot rod Mini. The most interesting bit in all this ,to me, is that Mini’s and MINI’s have always lent themselves to being modded by their owners to make them better.

I agree that a turbo conversion would not be keeping the essence of an R53 GP. A modified head or cam wouldn’t bother me.

I like having the SC. I have been eye balling the TVS9000, can have pretty significant gains with just a tune from what I have seen. It’s a pipe dream for now, to many other things on the list.

Replaced my cabin air filter. I don’t know when it was last replaced so it was dirty but not disgustingly packed full of crud.

My wife's R56 had a check engine light so I ran the codes. Looks like it is the dreaded 3490 Map thermostat activation line disconnection. Looks like I may be changing a thermostat housing. I looked around and it is dry as a bone. I don't see any leaks. It has been in the high 90's to 100 for a few weeks here I am hoping its just an anomaly. I am going to order a new one and have it handy just incase. I am getting the kit from DT that includes the water pipe.
@Minidave did you have to pull the intake manifold to replace the water pipe?

I can't answer that, I went with OEM unit at the time I needed to replace the Jarvik. Found out about these guys later on....

They seem to do a bit of MINI performance work....

Started Checker's up today. It's been a while. Next month they have a cars & coffee in Chico so I need to get ready. It's only two and a half hours away. I belong to 5 different clubs and none of them are within 50 miles of me. It's a shame how the old clubs have gone away they had a lot more going on than the new ones.

This morning I removed the boot handle so I could replace the torn switch cover....
Took all of 5 min to remove the assembly ( 4 x T20 torx screws)...

Torn thin wall flexible switch cover.
    IMG_1777.jpg

Then commenced to "Booger Pickin" the flexible cover from the hard rigid plastic... This took about an hour to accomplish.... It helped to use a small flat head screwdriver as a scraper.
    IMG_1779.jpg

    IMG_1783.jpg
    Mission Accomplished...
    IMG_1784.jpg

    Has a nice "clicky feel"...

    Much better than OEM........IMHO

Replaced a pair of rock hard Bosch wiper blades with a pair of new PIAA wiper blades. Truly a less than five minute job.

View attachment 47243 Will everything is done but the wheels. White wheels are a pain in the a-- but my car wouldn't look good with any other color. So I guess I'll have to pull them off and wash them. That's the best way anyway. I like to clean the back side. I like the look of them when you look and see white all the way through, but that will be in a day or two. I'm getting to old for this stuff my back is killing me. I was thinking when I wash the car I made 6 round trips around the car
1 rinse 2 soap 3 wash mitt 4 rinse 5 dry and then 6 dry again open the doors bonnet and boot to dry the jams

Well its been a while since GIR has moved out of his spot. Had to get to some stored lumber, so out he came minus power steering. It seems if he sits for any length of time now something just doesn't want to work. I put him up on jack stands, checked the easy stuff all that is left is the 100 amp fuse to mark off the list. I am pretty sure it is the pump itself, still OE. Not bad for a 16 year old faulty part.

Got under GIR and changed out the PS pump last Sunday. Gave him bath yesterday and drove him in to work today. Felt good.
Next project is doing something with the paint. I am looking at putting a ceramic coating on, just wish I had a garage to keep it somewhat clean for the process.

I have a carport but living near the coast we get a lot of driving rain. Thinking about doing it in sections to help keep down possible “contamination”

I think if you plan it out it will be fine. I washed then clayed let it dry over night, then buffed (with Sonax) then washed with dawn. Let dry over night. Then went over the car with a stripper (get your mind out of the gutter) then applied the coating. I called esoteric and they said not to worry about a very small amount of dust. Any dust that settles on the car over night will be removed when you wipe it down with the stripper (there you go agin, stop it).
I thought it would be like applying clear coat, it’s not you wipe it on and wipe it off. The key is being even and not missing any spots.

So today took the 2011 CM to the carwash, cleaned up very nice and I made room in the garage to keep it clean. The AUDI takes up a larger space than my JCW Clubby, alas I look at MINIs on Bat, not sure what is next but we shall see if it is another MINI in our future, three cars one in the street I guess. :)

Going to take Checkers back to Ceramic Garage for the annual check up. They wash it and check the coating for any problems.
