Good luck to you on a successful outcome... MINI has to get this right and fix it fast and not go through 5 iterations like what was needed just to fix a chain tensioner...

Makes perfect sense to me to do it that way. Customer satisfaction, cost and time all would point to that decision. Hopefully it all works in your favor.

I waved at the driver of an F56 MINI going the other way this morning. He looked stunned and did not wave back. :cryin:

Plus today labor costs are so high it can be significantly cheaper to the MFR under warranty to replace larger components than individual items.

I beat a hot rodded pick-up truck from the stop light to the bridge exit. About 2 kms (1 mile?) straight line drag race the other night. I do not condone street drag racing, but it was an empty road and we both just decided to go. Afterwards we got beside each other and waved at each other. It was fun.

I rarely get into a street race, but I'll do it if the road is empty. I'm the type where if i'm at a red light and the guy next to me takes off, I'll take off. A couple weeks ago the victim was a Jeep SRT with a Hemi. Was super happy to beat that thing. The guy was swerving threw traffic tailgating and just being a d%$k. Everyone got to see him get beat by a MINI :) He didn't wave, instead turned off angrily with body roll and squealing tires into a Mc'd's to eat his feelings.

I like when that happens. They sometimes pull up at he next light and ask if my car is stock and I say Yup.:ihih::devil:

I like pulling up to those big HEMIs and saying "Cute car" also.

I don't get those HEMI guys. The Tundra's are actually faster, but I'm still quicker :) I get that the HEMI is a decent engine making good power but It's in a dam truck that weighs over 5000 lbs. How do you not understand that? Anyways. I digress. GO MINI :beer

The twin turbo 2.7L F-150's are even faster because of gearing. Just found out last weekend. Had a 3.5L(I think that's the displacement) Ecoboost engine and then the 2.7 ecoboost and the 2.7 beat the 3.5. just goes to show what gearing can do.

Ha, I have a 5.7 Tundra, and it is amazing how often those Hemis want to race me. It generally is perplexing to me why anyone would want to race a 7000 pound truck, so I never do, but it is so common I have this very clear mental image of them sitting next to me at the light, revving and glancing over with this "I am gonna show you US-made import driving traitor what my Mexican-made truck can do." Then they storm off with straight pipes screaming and their pride intact while I keep my revs low and my mpg indicator above single digits as much as I can. I don't drag race trucks, just as much as I ignore all those punk kids in stanced Civics that constantly want to race me when I drive into town with the Mini.

And no matter how fast that Tundra is (0-60 under 7 sec I am told, I never tried it), the Mini will blow it away off the line as if it was standing still, even if the truck is in 4WD and uses the tow-mode transmission program. Physics are a *****. Those wheels alone weigh about 3 to 4 times what a Mini wheel takes to get spun iup from rest.

Turns out that these days I have no use for all that "crewmax" space any longer. Kids are grown up and drive themselves. It came in handy one more time last December for towing home the red Mini from Florida, but every time I drive it I feel I am a huge resource pig. Plus, there's a lot of cash tied up in that thing I could use for upgrades of our existing Mini fleet, plus buy a Mini for my daughter (and complete the Italian job trifecta for the family).

    What I won't do:
Got a flyer from an area GM dealer with a "Trade In - Trade up" offer. It even has a picture of a guy driving one in Cool Blue.
It starts out "[name] we want your 2006 MINI Cooper!" and that it will never be worth more than their offer of $8589!! That against a '16 Malibu!!! Be still my heart.

Got a call from my service department today. Replacing motor, clutch, the whole nine yards. Had to order the motor, but should be in by end of next week. Three other cars in the shop for the same thing.

What exactly is wrong with these motors that they're replacing them?
