I drove my MINI in the rain today. :eek6:
It is probably the first time in at least a month. I'm thinking longer than that.
So, now it is dirty. :incazzato:
It is due for a super-duper over-the-top clean and detail -- AKA a regular twice-weekly Dave.0 wash.
I was hoping to wait until Fall (October here) so I wouldn't sweat so much. But, I have access to an air-conditioned shop with a washing booth and room for me to detail in climate-controled comfort, and I recently did a favor for the owner.
They also have the right stuff for engine compartment cleaning.
I'm out of fresh claybars, and really need some new pads for my Porter Cable 7424 buffer.
So, as soon as the rain ends, it looks like I need to channel my "Inner Dave," and do some detailing.

A big day for me already (it's only 8:30 am). So far I have figured out how to mount my gauges, thank you Jet-set...a thermoplastic. I also started cleaning up the wheels I was given. They were a mess. Got 2 almost done (not waxed yet) and 2 to go. I guess I'm starting to get back to the world of the living

Don't wax your rims, wax will make all the brake dust stick when the wax melts from the heat.
This is a common mistake. ^^^^
Use RainX and maybe a paint sealent because the do not contain wax. RainX will stop brake dust from sticking and when you wash your car any sitting dust and dirt will wash away without the need for chemical rim cleaners.
Just use soap and water. -

Thanks Dave. I think the white painted rims will need a sealant. Any recommendations as to product????

I have one.....change your brake pads to ceramic pads - no black dust!
I did this on my 09 Clubman and have been very happy with them, no dust and they feel every bit as strong as the MINI pads (which I really liked)
They don't have quite as much initial bite, but I'm OK with that...... -
Brake dust happens. All you can do is wash the brake dust off regularly, and not do anything to make the dust accumulate faster and thicker.

Clean them with this: http://www.autogeek.net/dodo-juice-ferrous-dueller.html
Then seal them with RainX -

Took off the black wheels and threw the R112's back on. The Sparco's are heading back to Tirerack. Hadda threaten to kill them (more or less) in order to get them to take em back.

Well, I washed three cars today too. Two of them Minis.

I didn't get around to posting this when I was in Montreal last week. Sure a lot of MINIs there. Most of them were Gen 2 and Gen 3 cars. I might have only seen on R50 the whole time I was in Quebec. Look! A RedBull F56

You both beat me. I let my dirty MINI sit in its' garage... dirty. The weather forecast was all over the place. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
