Every engine is different as is every driver and every oil has its place. What works for one of us might not work for another.
With apologies to Dave.0: My $0.02 is that I use the lowest viscosity oil possible that still ensures I maintain the prescribed oil pressure when at full operating temperature; all the while keeping in mind the required viscosity of the oil at cold temp start-up.
OEM recommendations are based on providing the correct thickness at operating temperatures. To me, it seems like that the ‘thicker’ 40 oil will artificially elevate oil pressures when hot owing to the higher viscosity; decreasing the flow-rate. Also, not that too many here are likely concerned, the thicker oil should also produce a slightly lower MPG.

 

I've just about given up on trying to figure this out. In my R56 Mobil 1 0W40 was fine according to Mini and the Mobil 1 web site. My F56 came with 5W30, but again, the M1 0W40 was good according to the same two sources. Then in January '16 when they replaced the engine the spec was changed to 0W20 and the M1 web site says they don't have a compatible oil at this time.

Nope. That was gone more than a year ago. I'm driving a 2015 WRX for the time being.

I watched my status go from "On Order" to "Scheduled for Production". Man, I hate waiting.

Yup sand it or better yet wet sand it with 2000 or higher 3000 and clear again the next day.

Ethel just crossed over US13 at the mouth of the Chesapeake headed to Baltimore for unload tomorrow.

Sent all of her her info to the insurance company yesterday but they had no info on the 2018 Mini's in their system yet. That's why I started early.

 

Little joy ride out to a car show, couldn't have asked for better weather here in NOVA. Just beautiful out there!

 

My Daughter rode with me to my VA appointment in Durham. Afterwards we took a ride to Cary to visit the big Korean Market for lunch and some shopping. Like TATTRAT said, it was a beautiful day for a ride.

 

Yesterday: Traded wife's Countryman ALL4 S manual. Last day of the month deal FTW.

Well, Friday started a nice week + off from work. Spent the day installing 5 more windows on the second floor of the house with the extra set of hands from our very own Dave.0.



Proof that the Mistress does see the light of day..... once in a while.

We made short work of having to sling the ladder around for 3 of the 5 windows.

Now I can spend the rest if this week flashing and capping the 9 windows that have been installed to date.

 

Today I washed the wife's ride and cleaned it really well. It got too hot and humid to do mine so I will do it tomorrow morning.

I did do a SC oil change on my new to me M45 which will be going on my car soon.

Mine original SC has a 100k + on it and is weeping a little oil from the front so I am going to replace it with the very low mileage one I have had sitting on my shelf for the last few years. I will also install new OEM water pump, bypass valve and a few other parts while the front is wide open. :ihih:
