I did nothing to my car today because I was too busy working.
I will be cleaning it up a little for ride on Sunday to C & C up in Bethlehem PA with friends from the Philly crew. Should be a great day. Maybe I will take pictures, but don't count on it.

I doubt if it's a bad thing, but why do you think you need to do it?
The mfr calls for 5-30...... -

I'm just trying 5W40 to see if there in any effect on engine temperature or pressure. Nothing is wrong...just playing.

I took my MINI out for a nice ride today just to run it before tomorrow's C & C which is about an hour and a half away is Bethlehem, Pa.
When I got back she got a complete wash which only took 2 hours. :ihih: -

My wife and I took the MINI, met up with some friends and had a glorious trip through the countryside driving down to the Ohio river....
Had a fantastic lunch at a winery / restaurant.... chicken livers with bacon and onion over a bed of wild rice.... Washed it down with two glasses of local winery made peach sangria...
Oh.... And hit a dead raccoon lying in the middle of the road with my front splitter... Briefly saw part of a leg or tiny hand shoot across my bonnett... Now I need to warsch the MINI and remove the raccoon schmoo off the front bumper.... No MINI parts were damaged... The raccoon felt no pain.... So all is good...

I had all the best intentions of cleaning up Peppurr (new name) for the MINI Meet East event...but...it was a gorgeous day, bright sky, white clouds and a cool breeze, so wife and I drove to Indiana to see the grandkids in a local play. About 2 1/2 hours driving time and I loved every minute of it. Cleaning and polishing will come, but you have to keep the priorities straight.

She made a paint booth so I could paint my motorcycle and finish putting it together. Now I am going to go out and hard wire the V1 (she bought me for our anniversary) in to the Helmet. Then we are off to dinner!
Yes she is a good wife! -

AAONMS Well-Known MemberLifetime SupporterEvery engine is different as is every driver and every oil has its place. What works for one of us might not work for another.
With apologies to Dave.0: My $0.02 is that I use the lowest viscosity oil possible that still ensures I maintain the prescribed oil pressure when at full operating temperature; all the while keeping in mind the required viscosity of the oil at cold temp start-up.
OEM recommendations are based on providing the correct thickness at operating temperatures. To me, it seems like that the ‘thicker’ 40 oil will artificially elevate oil pressures when hot owing to the higher viscosity; decreasing the flow-rate. Also, not that too many here are likely concerned, the thicker oil should also produce a slightly lower MPG. -
vetsvette MINI Alliance AmbassadorI've just about given up on trying to figure this out. In my R56 Mobil 1 0W40 was fine according to Mini and the Mobil 1 web site. My F56 came with 5W30, but again, the M1 0W40 was good according to the same two sources. Then in January '16 when they replaced the engine the spec was changed to 0W20 and the M1 web site says they don't have a compatible oil at this time.
