[emoji23] there were two short gravel sections on one of the roads. The nice thing about twisty roads with gravel is that the 2 wheeled rv's tend to avoid them. There were a lot or them out yesterday. It's all clean now.

That's a myth, it has never happened.

 

This is more about what I did FOR my MINI today. Well, sort of. I doubt my MINI cares, but I bought a new stereo receiver for my garage, to replace the one that died over last winter. It is tied into my music library via wifi, so I can have music playing all over my house, including the garage. This one is also Bluetooth compatible, so I could play from my iPhone, but probably won't.

This one is 200 watts. It sounds good through the Klipsch outdoor speakers I have mounted in the garage. It was Best Buy's store brand, Insignia, so it was a whopping 99-bucks, plus sales tax. Hey, it's in my garage -- the heat and dust are going to kill it in five-to-ten years, just like the last one, so why spend a ton of money. It actually sounds pretty good.

Now, I can listen to music while I polish my headlights, and repair the rear hatch release -- the rubber cover finally bit the dust completely. You can't buy just the cover, you have to buy the whole handle, which comes finished in grey primer, so you have to have it painted to match the car. That ain't gonna' happen.

Finished my audio install after ripping out all inside panels to get wires routed. Then all of these panels had to go back in. Had a few screws left over for a while and then realized I didn't tighten down the passenger door panel. Then the driver seat went back in after 3 weeks out of the car. Tomorrow I'll be testing how the (3.9 ohm?) resistor mod works on the passenger seat air bag connector, because I want to travel with the car and use the additional space I get from leaving the seat out completely.

 

Mine fell off as well. Water got into the switch causing a short and the hatch would pop open at random. Talk about annoying. I just unplugged one of the wires going to the button for now, as I too don't want to buy a whole new handle right now. Now it only opens when the button of the key fob is pressed.

Gen 2 radiator hoses

It's time to replace hoses. Who has replaced them with silicone? Can you share your experiences? Thanks, DR

 

I replaced the hoses on my first R53 with red silicone hoses. They were very pretty, but took more time to keep clean (brush up against 'em with a greasy hand and you will be cleaning for the next 10 min... grease tends to get down into the pores and just stay around forever). They lasted the year and a half between install and when I sold the car... don't know how they went after that. Install was a bit of a PITA, as they are more flexible than stock rubber hoses, so any twist that you apply at one end translates along the entire length of the hose (and might cause rubbing if you don't untwist/reset the hose and try again).

 

Worked on the dark gray car and removed 12mm spacers and the long studs, and instead went with 5mm spacers and medium studs. Also new lug nuts. Not going to rub any longer. Now the long studs and thick spacers go on the other car with stock rims that are begging to be spaced at least by 12mm

Put on a Sphereology knob.
Originally ordered the Orbature, but it turned out to be on long back order.
470g compared to the stock knob at 180g - smoother shifting, easy install.
Looks nice. Delrin shell won't be too hot or too cold in summer/winter.

 

Buying it and bringing it home.

I'm buying my MINI today and bringing it home. That's probably enough for a first day....
