300+ wheel horsepower can be done with a TVS supercharger or a turbocharger but it’s gonna be real pricey if’n you’re building with longevity in mind, on the other hand 250 wheel horsepower is much more doable and not near as costly.
This is a little off the subject but , MARRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR. I'm going away for a while. I had some personal problems, So I see you later.
Wishing all of you an advanced Merry Christmas and a Happy New 2024 Year! It seems as if all our troubles emerge at this time, I guess, and my future seems kinda iffy to me in the coming year [and beyond]. I'm having brain surgery on Jan. 9 and will probably be without any of my Minis for some time..can hardly wait to get new automobile batteries for each
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New 2024 Year too! Wow, I'm hoping for a speedy and complete recovery for you.
@wmwny A close friend of mine just had his second brain surgery and he is doing well. I will be saying payers for you!
I wouldn't mind bolt on stuff as I'm pulling the motor and trans to catch up all the maintenance that's never been done, along with the clutch. Rt axle, timing chain kit, oil filter housing gasket, fr and rear main seals, water pump and stat, coolant bottle, silicone coolant hoses, sump gasket, whatever it takes to get it dry of oil leaks. Does a clutch kit come with a pilot bearing? Just noticed the oil light likes to come on at idle . Could be a game changer. Not going into the motor, have an xke and TR6 to get underway, an XJ6c ls swap and a 635csi to finish before I run out of time. Any usual suspects for low idle oil pressure? Oil pump would be doable while I have the front cover off, no ugly noises...
Easy checks for oil pressure would be oil level, oil filter, oil sensor, oil sensor wiring and then using a gauge.
This is the clutch kit I went with. the duel mass flywheel is hard to get resurfaced. also I would replace the clutch slave cylinder when you do it. https://www.detroittuned.com/valeo-mini-cooper-s-clutch-kit-gen-1/
Thats a lot of British cars you have to work on. You must be a glutton for punishment! Everything @00Mini said also there is a spring in the oil filter housing make sure it is still in place. If your pilling the motor I would also change the oil filter housing gasket, check the hoses going to it they may need changing also. Oil pan gasket and crane seal front and rear. On the crank pulley if the rubber is starting to crack replace it, you dont want it to fail. Most of us go with a ATI super damper. https://www.detroittuned.com/ati-super-damper-g1/ Lastly of you dont have a 15% SC pulley already installed That is some easy power. Also I would replace the SC oil
Can't help the brit cars MCS , and compared to my two 635's and the Mini, the brits leak no more oil nor have any more elec troubles than the bmw's. Nothing rides like a real jag, but nothing handles like a bmw. I'll have to find an alternative to the ati damper $, if mine looks good I may "pin" it like we did sbc's. I suspect my SC pulley is stock JCW, would that be a 15%? I'll certainly change all hoses accessible, and do all gaskets and maintenance while the motor is out. Found my windows down a couple mornings ago, so that moisture gremlin is lurking, just glad it didn't rain.
I believe the JCW pulley is reported to be 11%. I had to look up the pinning of small block Chevy damper and if I understand correctly it’s done to stop the damper from spinning on the crankshaft whereas it is the internals of the oem damper on the R53 that deteriorate and allow the uncontrolled spinning of its damper.
@00Mini is correct on the JCW sc pulley. The stock crank pulley has rubber between the inner and outer metal parts. If the rubber is cracked get rid of it. There cheaper pulleys out there that will be fine. I think Detroit Tuned sales some. Before getting into BMW’S and then Mini I have always been into Italian cars. Kind of working my way back. I have an 86 X1/9. If it is not leaving a puddle it’s not a oil leak.
Thanks 00, Pinning the sbc damper... Drill a hole in the inner ring to accept a hardened roll pin, drill the hole in the outer ring a few thou bigger to allow some movement but to prevent spinning in the event the rubber bond gets weak.
Hi all. I'm back for now. My problem was I lost my wife on the 18th of December. We were married 49 years. It's hard to get use to being alone.
