I'm sooo glad we don't have emission testing in my county. What a pain to have to go through that. Must be lots of fun for the highly modded car guys.
Had a MINI club member who passed away a couple years ago with a modded Roadster.. His wife does not drive stick shift, so I helped take the car to get tested.. We wound up needing to revert the tune to get it to pass. In Illinois they only take data from the ODBII port.. there used to be a number of additional tests they no longer do.
They should just put the sensor up the tail pipe. If it is in the correct range that should be it. Why does it matter if my car is modded if it is not putting out anymore pollution then if it were stock. My heavily modded Exige is at lambda 1 when I am at an even speed. It’s about control.
Got the repairs done 2 weeks ago. Fine for a week and a half, then the leak returned in the same vicinity. The water pump, crossover pipe and its gaskets, and the thermostat gasket were teplaced, so I’m guessing the thermostat housing didn’t survive being taken offand put back on again being so old. It’s going back in Monday to get fixed again.
Good news Sat it's going to be 74 Sun 78 Mon 80 Tue 80. It look like the Checkers will be on the road again. A wash and maybe to the golf course.
Currently, the estimate is for the thermostat housing and the TH to turbo coolant line. Hope that’s all it is. No diagnostic charge because of the recent related repair.
Picked this up for my 09 MINI Cooper... The original OEM got me 9 years... The second OEM got me 6 years... Must have caught it just in time... The battery case had bulging sides but thankfully no leaks... Went with an AGM battery this time... Prices kept going up at the same time the life was getting shorter...
Speaking of old retired guys, I drove to retiree breakfast this morning. Enjoyed the drive, breakfast, and the beautiful sunshine morning.
I'm a fan of AGM batteries. No worries about leaking acid. Plus they work in any position, should you find yourself like an upside down turtle your MINI will still start.
Well today I finished the snow tire project on Skooby the clubster. A couple of weeks ago my sweetie took a rally turn in Skooby. We refer to that type of turn as ditch hooking. While it works well on a gravel forest road it's not great in the city. A drain cover with a cast iron dagger on the end holed the right rear tire. Got the call loaded up my car with the floor jack, impact wrench and spare tire. Had her on the road in 20 minutes. Then the search starts for a spare Michelin xi3 snow tire. Seems they are no longer made. I didn't want a mismatched tire so I started searching on fleaBay. No luck, but after a few weeks of fruitless searching I found one. Dropped the new used one and the dead one off at Tire Discounters. He said it will be done in a couple of hours. Called them after about four hours and he says it's next, I'll call you when it's done. No call yesterday, but this morning he calls. Go to pick up the tire and he meets me in the lot with the tire. No charge since he said he didn't come through yesterday. How great is that? Feel like I've won the tire lottery. Now just waiting for snow next November...
Taking the wife's car in for a wash at the detailer's today. They do an outstanding job. I'm not bad , but not as good a job as they do. I'll try and take some pictures. I got a new phone so I need to learn how things work.
