I would take a look at this one. I had one on my R53. They have several different exhaust to chose from. Also Detroit Tuned supports the community. Chad is a get guy. https://www.detroittuned.com/milltek-exhaust-mk2/ So is Aaron at outmotoring https://www.outmotoring.com/
Yesterday was a Chicago MINI Motoring Club hangout and MINI related white elephant gift exchange Here is a link to a couple more pictures https://www.flickr.com/photos/ernestovumbles/albums/72177720323869487
I thought they were an interesting solution for someone who wanted a spirited exhaust occasionally but wanted to tone it down at other times.
I ordered a new dome light from AllMag and should receive it this week my buttons were not working properly one was broken inside also purchased vent visors but they were incorrect size so I might have to modify those also… but oh that shine!
Where is the best place to get replacement foam for this speaker ;-) It's needed replacement for a while, but I was intimidated about removing the inner door panel. Turned out to be not very hard to do, It just made bad noises while popping off the plastic clips.
It does make some noise. I replaced mine with some kickers. I believe I had to reuse the plastic the old speaker is in to make it work.
I have repaired speaker surrounds with a speaker repair kit. https://www.speakerworks.com/speaker-repair-kits-s/65.htm
I had no idea that was an actual thing.. I have already replaced my speakers but perhaps I will try to repair my old ones anyways.
I drove the Helmet home from Charlotte this weekend while helping my son move. I have a baffling problem and am very angry. If you guys remember about 1 and half years ago my son hit a pot hole and bent the rim. It also was rubbing the coil over. He took it to a shop that said they could fix it. My son said there were several performance cars at the shop. They said the coilover was bent causing it to rubbing. So a new rim and coilover and they deemed it fixed. They told him it would be best to run a very thin spacer on the front wheels. I told him it would not hurt but it does not need them. So last night I get the car home and unload the old rim and coilover, first time I have seen them. Rim is BAD but the coil over looks good. I open the hood and see this! Take a good look! See the problem?? They elongated the holes for mounting the top of the coil over and pushed it in, then they have the camber plates all the way in also! This morning I jacked the car up and pulled the wheel, the wheel that was so tight my impact could not loosen the bolts! I pulled the spacer off and put the wheel back on.The rim still rubs!! They did not fix squat! The right wheel is straight up and down the left, the damaged side is maybe -1. This is what I think happened. They did not see anything bent so they assumed it was the coilover. When they put the new one on and it rubbed. So they moved the camber plat all the way in, when that did not work they made the mounting holes longer to move it more. That’s what they fixed it with a spacer. The only thing I could find was that he did mushroom the top of the strut tower a very little. I took some measurements of where the lower ball joint is compared to the right side. It appears to be about 1/4 or slightly less pushed in compared to the other side. Before all this the car did not need spacers but the rim was maybe a 1/4 from touching the coilover. Here’s the problem. Nothing looks bent, except the strut tower. I put a pry bar to the ball joints and they are tight. The only thing I can think of it the wheel barring is pushed in. When I drive it I can hear a soft thudding sound when the car rolls. They charged him a lot of money and did not fix the problem! Anyone have any ideas? @Minidave you do great work with suspensions can you think of anything? I could not get too deep today because rain was on the way. Old coilover and rim
Were you able to look into the problem any further ?? Will the elongated mounting holes be a concern once you find the root cause of the initial problem ??
The MINI got pulled out into the daylight for the first time in a few months and was in need of a bath so while my wife was washing the exterior I spruced up the interior and cleaned the glass.
I had my brother in law come by and take a look too. He is a mechanic and use to do alignments. Like me he could find nothing that looked out of place. He thought the only thing would be the lower ball joint. Every thing is tight and in good shape. So Friday I pulled both front wheels and checked everything both sides were the same. I should add that the right side has about 1/16 of on inch clearance between the rim and coilover, if I remove the spacer. The old Green racing (BC coilover re-valved) looked fine. So I swapped the to the old one and moved the camber plate adjustment to mach the other one and bolted it down where the factory mounts are. I used a level to check the camber and they are close to the same. Before it was pulling a little left and the steering wheel was a little off. Now it tracks straight and the steering wheel is centered. Also I replaced the lower ball joint, the old one looked ok. I still have to run the very thin spacers. So I don't know…….its a mystery to me. I need to get it to an alignment shop. There is one in town that has a guy that has been doing alignments sense the 80’s. He use to do all the SCCA guys cars. I have not been there in about 2 years, I hope he is still working. He really know what he is doing. I also have replaced the hood release cable. Next I am going to re-clear the carbon fiber bits, picture below. Then I will see what I can do about the scraps from him being run off the road by the trucker. After that, it will be up for sale. I love the car but can not keep it. I forgot how quick it is. It runs really good. It’s even had a good walnut blasting about 6 months ago. Someone will get a great Mini.
Drove to retiree breakfast this morning and the car ran great. It has been a couple of months since I last drove the MINI and I found myself smiling at just how much fun it is to drive the little guy.
