After donuts a few of us motored over to Jeff's place to help him out with his turbo code issue.... Jeff supervising.... Ummm... Yeah, that's Jason's foot...:blush2: Look at that... We made Jeff's JCW into a Justa...:cryin: A quick peek at the exhaust valves... Edit: Exhaust stems... They all looked the same... Hmmmm... I've seen that before....:incazzato: Noticed a huge amount of wear on the valve.... It was worn down to almost a knife edge from a "as new" thickness of about 1/8".... The valve was really loose and was the culprit with throwing the codes... [ame=http://youtu.be/hIpVWPhpDyk]2009 JCW Turbo - YouTube[/ame] Anyway.... I'm tard.... going to take a nice long shower.... Dinner tonight will be at "Dirty Franks Hot Dog Palace.... Quick and easy...:arf:
Couple of the guys found out that I was going to try to fix the turbo today and came by to lend moral support. As you can see, they were giving the problem very thoughtful consideration. This project is not a bolt on replacement. My intent is to only replace the broken part which is the waste gate so I purchased a exhaust housing which has the gate built into it. Did not intend to have to pull the entire turbo, but we couldn't see any way to get the exhaust housing apart from the compressor housing so we pulled the whole thing to work it on the bench.
Yea, I drove out to Jeff's for the turbo extraction. After my nap I went home bit they continued to extract. Too many Dark Silver MINI's in one place
Installed a K&N RU-3130 filter inside my JCW airbox, also moved the flapper linkage arm to keep the flapper open at all times. Also found that 2 out of the 3 nuts that mount the right strut to the strut tower had cracked - I replaced these with spare ones from my Volvo S70
Got my Ireland Engineering fixed camber plates in along with valve cover gasket, new idler pulley, and belt tensioner assembly. Thanks to Nick (MRNTD) for doing all this with minor help from me. It's hard to find people who are willing to help and expect nothing in return. Little did he know he would be receiving some Schuler's donuts and beer. Thanks again for doing this for me Nick.
Yep that was hot hard work and we didn't even fit in a nap. I went out to the London Cobra show after donuts. Lots of nice cars, nice people, and great sounds. Pics coming soon.
Catching up today, wash and vac'd Scooter post track day cleanup, real pretty now! We spent the day out at High Plains Raceway in Byers, Colorado on Sunday. It was a pretty fun but not uneventful day. One of our MINI guys shredded his serpentine belt on his 04 MCS, that was a water show. We finally found a trailer tow for him, otherwise it would have been $400 for a flat-tow to his house. Damage still is TBD. Here are a few pictures of the day, it was amateur day at the track, Red Bull, Belly Dancers and Willie B Grudge Match. See this ALBUM, it is public on FB. Let me know if you cannot open the album, I can re-post in another area, if needed. Don Don
Here's a little taste of what we did this past weekend, as we once again proudly displayed the logo of this fine Mini site.... God how we do love Laguna Seca. Cheers to us after some hard earned success! :beer *** Please join us in a prayer for one of our own, after misfortune struck the driver of the #48 Mini during Saturday's race. You may feel free to PM me for brief details if you wish. Thanks everyone. ***
Yesterday I installed the DDM intake I got from WMW and is Awesome. Easy to install, fits perfect and I feel the difference in sound and performance.
Just drove to work... enjoying the sunshine in between thunderstorms we've been getting a lot lately :cornut:
Ordered a new turbo for my JCW. :mad2: However, Silverback will be back on the road soon. Check out how bad the wastegate was on this car after 103k miles. Way too much play in that gate. On top of that the cartridge was leaking oil. Time for bigger better faster.
Successfully installed a double din aftermarket head unit. Took quite awhile but I got it in with the metra install kit plus the steering wheel adapter. Yes I did delete the stock head unit but kept my buttons in the speedometer. Even though they're now blank they look better than the delete piece that came with the metra kit. If anyone has any questions about wiring or anything it really ended up being semi easy after I figured out what wires were what I would be happy to help.
