Per ASK MINI, my '14 Roadster S will roll out of the Oxford factory within hours in search of an America-bound ship. In just a few weeks, I should be able to tell you what "I did today with my MINI".
A friend found a full set of 17 inch MINI wheels on the free part of Craigslist and told me about it. Thanks to him letting me know I now have a complete 2nd set for Mr. Merlin!
Pulled the MINI into the shop first thing this morning.... Put the front tars on the back and put the back tars on the front.... The guys on the front are happy now that they get to decide the direction we take.....
I can relate. Back before The Big Bang, when I was 16, I had a job in a gas station fixing flat tars. (The letter i had not yet been tought in Illinois public schools.)
My 3 year old grand nephew came for a visit today. He had a Matchbox car to play with... a BRG MINI. I took him to the garage and showed him my car....his eyes got really big and he looked at his toy and then back at my car. He wanted to get inside and play. So we played "racetrack" for quite a while and he didn't want to get out or play with his other toys...(can't say as I blame him...) So I showed him the hidden glove box where I keep my microfiber towels and taught him how to polish the dash. Next visit I'll teach him how to wipe the glass. Smart boy.
Now, if he could only reach the boot, bonnet, and top, you could get him to wash and wax your MINI. Keep him close the next few years.
Wow, what a great weekend! Drove the R53 to my daughter's house over in Pismo Beach Friday afternoon. Watched Arroyo Grande HS pound Templeton HS 49-0 that night (actually had to go see my grand daughter cheer at the game). Drove the MINI back up to my buddy's winery in Templeton and met some MidCal Mini folks for a wine tasting run and some lunch around 11am Saturday. Drove back to Pismo around 2pm, then hopped in my son-in-law's M3 around 4pm and headed up the 101 to Carmel. Did some wine tasting around 7pm, ate some great Italian food and crashed for the night. Got up this morning and headed over to Laguna Seca at 7am for an awesome track day. We started our first session around 9:15 and turned laps at just under 2 minutes (that's right WE) and had a frigg'n blast! Our class (expert of all choices--what was he think'n?) had all sorts'a cars from full blown race preparred Porsches, Formula Vee, NASCAR, Trans Am Mustangs and Corvettes, a Lambo, an R53 MINI, a Datsun 510... well ya get the idea, and our M3... We ran two of the three sessions and headed back to Pismo around noon... Got back around 3pm after stopping in Paso for some outrageous tacos. The wife and I hopped back into our MINI and headed back to Clovis around 4 or so, landing back at our place by 7pm. This was one helluva weekend and I'd do it all over again tomorrow if the option was there! Next time I'm gonna take the MINI and he can ride shotgun.... Can't happen soon enough.
