Enjoyed an almost 80° day with the sunroof open and windows down. Washed off all the dirt and salt from last weekend and then found out it's supposed to rain for the next few days.
Changed the oil and hosed out the engine bay a bit from the leaked coolant from a couple weeks ago. Now just need to get the replacement overflow tank put back in. Hopefully next week sometime.
Motored on over to a local Hofbrau for our British Car Club meeting tonight. Great to see everyone, as always, including some new members who are of the new MINI enthusiast lifestyle.
Shes alive ! Finished rebuilding the engine as soon as the last part was delivered by the dealer and immediately mounted it. By 10 am tomorrow she will be driving out of the bay for her maiden voyage with a new and stronger heart.

I washed the old girl last night then it rains. On a side note, since I have Mission Control in mine, this morning I got to hear it have a conversation about how it was raining and that was a good thing because it washes the car......
I'm serious, it talks to itself. And thankfully it knows nothing about Jareds. Anyway, it just got new wheels and seems happy with that.
Jared, that's the Subway Sandwich dude, right? What, is he sellin' jewelry outa the trunk of his car now? Dave
Yesterday... Gave my mini its first bath... Oh boy cant believe what was hiding under the PNW filth... Looks like a future paint job will be in his future... Then since it was a balmy 53 outside we cruised around with sunroof open and took the dog to the dog park. Today will be grocery shopping then go pick up my son who is coming home from AIT with the Army. And go see the Mini Dealer for quotes on repairs for this new to me mini....
Well......got these today! :biggrin5: Just in time to start hittin the backroads. Watch out you bikers..... oh wait....I'm one of you
Picked it up from the dealership's service department, where the car was diagnosed with MOP (MINI Owner Paranoia).
Today I am picking up my repaired "Taco'ed" (a.k.a bent exhaust) which is now back to straight pipe exhaust today. It has only two magnaflow in-line "mufflers" and tends to be rather LOUD but I love it.:lol:
Took out the silencer...used the blue silicone hoses because it was cheap...around $33 through Amazon.
127,000 to 65,000 miles! OK it's a long one but interesting. :beer Well on 3/12 I took My MINI for a drive around South Salem, Went out River road and took a couple side roads. The "last" road I turned down had signs for possible high water. I flew past the signs and went on my way, turned the first corner and found that the road had been flooded. It didn't look too deep so I slowly rolled into the water, only came up about 2 inches so I kept going. Not sure what made me decide to tempt fate but I did. The road dipped and before I knew it the water was almost to the bottom of my car. I thought to myself I can't stop and throw it into reverse now, so I decided to just go for it. At the halfway point the water was up to the bottom of my door and the intake sucked a bunch of water into the engine. Engine died with a dreaded loud knock. I look out my window and there is oil everywhere.:cryin: I slowly opened my door to find the water a hair away from flooding the car. I kicked off my shoes and jumped into the water and began pushing my car through the water, almost a football field of water later I made it to the other side, oil and water pouring from my dear MINI. After a long breather (out of shape) I popped the hood and checked the air filter, SOAKED! Knew right then that I must have hydrolocked the engine and possible more due to the amount of oil, (my undercarriage is very dirty) but I thought it couldn't be that dirty. When the Tow truck driver showed up he asked if I had full coverage, OF COURSE THANK GOD. Brought it to the shop and they labeled it a flood vehicle. Geico checked the MINI out, adjuster said I threw a rod right through the bottom of the motor and that since water caused the damage I was covered. Shop is putting in a used MINI motor w/ 65,000 miles:drool in place of my destroyed motor w/127,000 miles. Geico is paying for everything besides the $500 deductible. When the adjuster asked if I had any questions, the only one I had was, Are you sure it didn't damage the CVT transmission too :biggrin5::fingerscrossed: In a week and a half I should be driving my MINI with about half of the original miles.:arf:
^^^^ wow that just sucks but I am glad you are getting it fixed. I never mess with standing water for this reason.
Today I took my car out of the garage on a nice sunny Saturday. Took a nice "spirited" drive and tapped off the tank with Sunoco 93 and ran some twisty back roads. I also realized how much I hate my Michelin All -Season tires because they have so much less grip. Took the car home, and put her up on jack stands and started taking off my Milltek so I can put on my "other" exhaust. :eek6::devil::ihih:
