Drove the MINI over to buddy Bill's house. Climbed in his 996 for 350 miles of back road fun. Climbed back in the MINI & drove home. Fun day flogging a flat 6.
Gave it a bath and peeled the plastidip off the outside of the grille. Now its sealed up away from the pollen and neighborhood cats in the garage.
After driving Black Top home from work tonight on a lovely evening where I could enjoy the sunroof, I pulled out some sound damping material and took the driver's door off to install it. Also to check the door lock mechanism to see if a cable was loose, since my remote makes the car click and flash, but doesn't work the doors. The interior door panel came off pretty easily, but what's this? That was a surprise. There wasn't one on the passenger side! Aha. Almost certainly the result of Owner #2 sticking the sign in the window seal, then absent-mindedly rolling the window down. Along with discovering that the cable is not the problem, I also discovered that the torx screw farthest back on the handle has wallowed out the plastic nut it bites in to. Anyone know what that piece of yellowish plastic is called? And I found this black rubber thing in the bottom inside of the door too. Torx 30 bit for scale. Can anyone tell me what it is? I'm hoping it's the Super Master Secret Control for All Remote Operation of the MINI. But I think it's a rubber spacer/grommet.
New summer rubbers for the EPIC road trip to Fontana leaving Colorado bright and early Monday morning! Anybody wanna meet up for a yard of ale Monday night in St. Louis???
Got tires balanced... no more buzzzzzzzz in the steering wheel. YAY! I-75 will be much nicer next Weds!!!!
All detailed up and waiting for the rain to hit on the way down Tues. However, Sat. is looking good for some twisties (it can't sit in the garage that long)!
I soaked it in simple green, rinsed with water, rinsed with denatured alchohol, and finally flushed it with clean oil. Oiled the o-ring and reinstalled it.
I use carb or MAF sensor cleaner. I cover one end with a finger, spray it in, shake it, and pour it out. Oh I also touched up a few paint chips today.
↑That would be the way I would usually do it, but someone used all the carb cleaner and put the empty can back on the shelf. I was probably unnecessarily concerned about simple green contaminating my oil.
Gave it a bath. A quick claying. Then touched up some of its freckles with some touch-up paint. Tomorrow, the buffer comes out with some polish then wax.
