Still waiting to get mine back from the shop. Not having my mini is a real bummer. Using the exxon-valdese as a dd has gotten old. However, I have gotten my mpgs up from 7 to 8. Fortunately I have a relatively short commute of 24 miles round trip. My mechanic (who I have used for years and is good on his word) promised to have everything buttoned up by Thursday next week.
Headed off to P/T for my back this morning, then ran it all over town in search of a bronze bushing for the mini bike....
Took a delightful 45 minute drive in the sun to the Toyota dealer to pick up our other vehicle that was in getting a couple of recalls dealt with. Not often when a dealer spends 7 hours of labor and installs a box of parts on your 5 year old car and there's no bill!
Got off work and decided to take an incredibly random drive. Found myself in Marysville, OH and started thinking of something to do or see and then I remembered during my internship I had done a newspaper ad for the covered bridge festival they have. So I got some gas and headed toward these bridges. Got lost and found an awesome road around Milford Center. I did get video of me making noises through the bridges but didn't realize how much wind my phone mic would pick up. However, here are some pictures from todays solo event:
Seth that forth picture is awesome, and I have added it to my folder of MINI's for my screen saver. I did a full detail of my car which included 3 layers of wax. Replaced my OEM license plate lights with LED's from Out-motoring, fixed a flashing HID fog light which I found had water in the connector. I also removed my LOUD Dragon exhaust and hung it back on the wall and put my Milltek back on. My latest project is restoring my OEM Areo bumper from all the stone chips and a small crack and making it perfect again. Doing all sanding by hand taking my time starting with 80 grit and working up in steps. (80, 180, 300, 400, 1000) bullydog adhesion promoter and primer used at each level with guide coats.
I think this may be my highest honor yet.... being on Dave.0s screen saver! Oh and for those ladies in the crowd; I did a hand brake turn, full 180, in the gravel before taking that picture.
Might I suggest a steering wheel and something like Need for Speed, or Race 08 which has you driving a MINI through Monaco, Macau, Brands Hatch and other old school F1 race tracks. Note the wine glass is empty in this picture. ...and back on topic, I went shopping for a clay bar today.
Last week I had to hand pump the oil out of my 12 year old JD Lawnmower, oil was black and I could not locate the under the hood drain plug. The cheap Home Depot pump will be used to pump out Scooter's catch can today and weekly from now on. Makes a 20 min. job into a 5 min. job. I passed the JD (Kawasaki engine) along to my son for his house up in Greeley and treated myself to a new Honda mower this weekend (Father's Day gift to self). Don
Seth, I stopped at that bridge a couple of weeks ago and checked out the under structure while taking a much needed nature break.
The Helmet got the full spa treatment today. Detergent wash, clay bar, Machine Polish 3, Machine Polish 4, paint sealant. Striped the old Penetrol, applied new. Removed all the belt line moldings and resprayed with Plastidip. Detailed the interior. It's time for a cold beer and a nap.
My parents are coming over for a BBQ..... So I..... Backed the MINI out of the garage.... Backed the JD tractor out of the garage.... Mowed the front yard... Mowed the back yard.... Put the tractor back in the garage... Put the MINI back in the garage... At least the yard looks nice and my parents won't think they raised a slackard.....
I intended to wash the weekend's trip dirt off it, but it's going to rain for the next four days so that seems like a waste. And I'm just relaxing around the house today after the exhausting weekend, so I'm not even driving anywhere. (Quite a change from the rest of the weekend, which involved this fun little trip down some neat secondary roads to the place I spent Friday night camping.) Speaking of camping, here's Black Top mid-pack. I'm amazed at all the stuff I can fit in this little car! But I did the first trial of Dave.O's penetrol trick to restore my black plastic trim. So far it looks great! And I'm taking before and after pics for those interested.
