Wow.... That's a helluva turn.... All on the way to Cardiac Rehab.... You been missing driving the Gnatster?
This morning we got revved at by some turd in a Celica while at a stop light. First time that's ever happened to me. :frown2: I gave him my best "You're an idiot" look and hopped on the freeway. I've had so many new experiences since I've owned this car...
I haven't had that happen with my Mini yet. But when I had my TT Quattro, every mexican and teenager with a Civic and a fartcan tried to race me. Though the funniest was the kid in a turbo pt cruiser. Who knew they made a turbo version of that death trap? I think he got the point when I started laughing at him.
Topped up with 93 then came home and properly cleaned the windscreen. (Thanks, Dave.0.) p.s. You guys are too young and attractive. Nobody wants to race a bald, dumpy old goat like me. :ihih:
Got the car back from my local shop after having the coolant, brake fluid and PS fluids all flushed and replaced. WOW does new PS fluid feel nice. Thought something was wrong with the car driving it home. Nice and smooth and a bit less effort (although I do miss the bit more effort.....). All was in preparation for heading north to Pacific Raceways for the historic races this weekend. Gonna have fun!
Today was a big day for BlackTop. After chasing around various shops by phone ("sorry you'll have to take it to the dealer." "Sorry, we can't do that here, you'll have to go to our sister dealer 60 miles away.") I happily worked with Dawson Glass who were at the top of the search results for "Pilkington auto glass Charlottesville". These guys were great to work with, very accommodating, and the tech was more than happy to show me how the previous installer using SafeLite glass had screwed up his install leading to the passenger side A Pillar cover flying off 2 days after the glass cracked. (The previous installers had pulled the pillar off without removing the screws securing the door side edge. This was true on both sides, though I had only lost one cover so far.) Turns out the install was SO messed up that every single trim piece associated with the windshield is going to have to be replaced: Both A covers, the rain gutter and the curved bits where they terminate at the front. But now I have a new, perfectly clear windshield and it looks great, even though the car as whole looks like hell because the A Pillar covers haven't arrived yet. Many, many thanks to Crashton and Dave.0 for their tips about using Pilkington glass, not SafeLite. It took some digging, but I found Dawson Glass and they and their product are great. I will say that A Pillars *should* be reusable, if care is taken in their removal. Unfortunately, the window tint shop turned busy by the time the windshield was done, so no rear window tinting today, and I can't get free time to have it done until next week.
Glad it all working out for you in the end. SafeLite are butchers I will never use them again for any car and they have a bad reputation in the Auto business. I used to work in 2 body shops back in the day and when the SafeLite sales guy stopped by they always told him to leave they are not interested in saving any money because of they quality of work and cheap products they use. It is not worth the customer satisfaction trouble. The private guys that service body shops and dealerships are the way to go as they take great pride in the work they do and references count for something to them.
My mini made me have a conversation with a very nice law enforcement officer this morning for reckless driving, changing lanes but after a 15 minute conversation, I got out of it with a warning.
Nice Job You should have offered to let him drive your MINI and you follow him. That way he can see how much FUN a MINI is to drive and that you could not help yourself.
Just remembered that i totally managed to survive the stroke I had first thing this morning. When I went to to get in the car and saw a GIANT bird turd. So, being the neurotic person I am, I reached for the quick detailer and a microfiber cloth in the trunk to remove it. Only to have it literally fly away. It was a moth of some sort that damn near took out an eye... and scared the ever living $#!+ out of me.
Installed new NGK Platinum JCW-spec plugs. Getting those ignition coils off was some fun... but got easier as I worked my way down the line (and worked up more courage to man-handle them). Car still runs.
You guys are doing it wrong... I haven't put gas in the Rat-MINI since... Well 3 years ago! Wish the Jeep got that kind of milage!
