Replaced brake pads all around and rear rotors on my sons R53. He helped me and learned a bunch....plus some great father/son time.
Drove it through the touchless car wash. Damn all this construction around here. It's getting so dusty so fast. Ordered a set of Replacement Front Wipers: R50/2/3/5/6/7 Up to June 2012 from OutMotoring.
Designated driver for a fund raising event (5th grade football team) in Olde Town tonight. Note to self....5 inch platforms a poor choice. Take sneaks next time.:frown2:
Whatz a this Dave?? Drove mine over to have breakfast with a friend. Hit the parts store & bought a couple of sets of Bosch Ikon blades in preparation for winter. Is this were we start my wipers are better than yours Nathan?
I am at Helix having the blue Mohawk (Marzo) do a little work. E- brake cables replaced, timing chain guides, timing tensioner and a little Milleck resonator fix. Also since I am here and lazy he is also doing a Amsoil oil change.
I'm at VIR today attending Phil Wicks driving school. My car needs a driver upgrade. Anyway, I just noticed I have the only R50 here. Keeping up on the twisty sections is not a problem for the car, but on the straights, I might as well have brought a lawn tractor.
You need the handbrake in good shape. Must be able to do handbrake turns this winter. :arf: Was the timing chain rattling?
:lol::lol::lol: That R56 is blown up and has been sitting for a long time. Craston: Was the timing chain rattling? Yup and the end of one of the guides was so worn thin and brittle when we took it out and set is on the bench a piece broke off. the rest just lifted off. I caught that right in time at 89K. :ihih: 2 brand new OEM guides and one new OEM timing chain tensioner and my 3k oil change and she is silent again. Oh and its also cool to only pull the hand brake 2 clicks and have it fully engaged. Unlike it was before with one broke cable and I could pull it up to the armrest.:eek6:
Installed these today. Looks a little better now. How they will perform remains to be seen after I get all the air out of my brake system. :mad2: Oh yeah. Drained all the juice outa the transmission and refilled with Redline MTL.
06 R52 with 63,500 Miles. This weekend: 1. New Michelin 215x40x18 Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires. Wow! the grip is amazing. Replaced Continental Extreme Contact DWS, which were quite worn. I got about 35K miles from the Continentals. And, due to good alignment, were worn evenly and ran smoothly. 2. Replaced both O2 sensors, before and after the CAT due to ESS code. 3. Replaced MSD coil, you know that red-colored after-market coil that is heavily advertised to be better than OEM? Well, #3 was misfiring, and had gotten worse until it misfired continually. So, I replaced it with the OEM. So, much for China-made; (it says so on the bottom). So, right now, I am mad at MSD! $200 (worse than) wasted on bad performance. Bottom line: car runs unbelievably smooth and really handles. Of course it is also RMW dyno-tuned with all the usual mods, FSD shocks and poly bushings etc.
You're lucky the MSD coil didn't fry the ECU and harness... A lot of problems with that over the years.
YIKES. :eek6: Mine have never even been checked... at 150k... I replaced the tensioner a while back, but have never checked the chain and guides. And my engine sounds like a sewing machine. But I have new guides and chain on order, to swap while the engine is out of the car.
I'll chime in here too. Mine is a very quiet engine. Much more so than the French engine in Babs clubster with half the mileage.
My chain was fine it was just the guides that were going. I only added the timing chain tensioner because why not everything is already apart. :ihih: I would have been stupid to not do it.
