No glass polish will fix a MINI windshield. The only thing a good glass polish will do is remove film from wiper marks and I can do that with 0000 steel wool and basic glass cleaner. :ihih: You're best bet is to find a auto glass shop that sells the Non OEM Pilkington glass windshield and have a new one installed. It's just about $250 with the rain sensor for my R53. Oh I also replace the A-Pillar's at the same time.
I have a Non OEM Pilkington & it really isn't any better than the oem one as far as chip resistance goes. It is a lot cheaper & that worked for me.
Took Scooter to lunch and fed him Flautas! Needed that, then came home and mowed the lawns, again! Back to warm here for a few more days. Fall is about the best time for MINI time!
Never said it was "chip resistant", but it is much cheaper than OEM / Dealer glass. Pilkington makes a quality product and is the standard for other car manufactures like Lexus. I have seen cheaper products that the laminate between the layers of glass separates and causes visual distortion. (Safe Lite)
Went through 3 Safe Lite windshields on the wife's 02 WS6 a few years ago. :mad2: One had such a bad "fish eye" it gave me a headache after 5 minutes and I had to turn the wheel over to her . She is short enough that it wasn't directly in her line of site.
Today I wiped down my car in the garage with a quick detailer. :ihih: Dodo Juice Basics of Bling Detailing Spray, quick detailer, instant detailer Also these are the absolute BEST microfiber towels I have ever used and worth every penny. They are made by Microfiber Madness and everyone should check them out because they are not the cheap crap you buy at auto stores and they are not made in China like the Cobra ones sold by Autogeek.net. I have been using these for the last few months and they hold up and are crazy thick and soft with no lint. Microfiber Madness: Crazy Pile (16" x 16") - www.CarPro-US.com They also make excellent drying towels.
The Pilkington is distortion free. Yes Dave you didn't say "chip resistant". That was just me adding a bit of info I thought might be helpful to folks buying a windshield. My MINI bonnet is not chip resistant either. :nonod: One bit of advice, be there watching when your new windshield is installed. Years ago I had the glass folks come to my wife's work & install a windshield in her 4Runner. Of course she signed off on the job without seeing it. When I saw it.:mad5::incazzato: I took it to their shop & they replaced it. They were amazed at the carp job just like me. It was removed & re-installed correctly. Lesson learned watch them & if you see something that is not right have them make it right. Yep Safelite sucks.....
Two great days in Colorado, lots of miles and smiles with Scooter the 07. We went gun store visiting up North, I finally found a new unit at the right price, which is always pleasing. About 200 miles of happy motoring at 32 mpg. Scooter loved it, but I had to give him a nice bath and Hydro shine for the Motor-Tober event at Schomp MINI in the AM. Rally from Red Rocks with coffee and donuts to the dealership for a small SCCA style AutoX course. I will use one of their MINIs for AutoX. Take care and have a great weekend. Motor Some!
Yesterday washed the Blu MINI to rid it of all the road crud accumulated last weekend in the Ohio hills of course it now wears a nice coat of Hydro. The day before Skooby got a detailing. The poor Miata sits in the garage feeling neglected.
Drove my S over to Tim Horton's for the monthly breakfast...200 mile roundtrip! Great seeing people I rarely get to see. :ihih:
After letting the tank go lower than typical, I filled up with 93 today and am pleased to be getting it for what the posted 87 used to cost.
Took the Mini, my Daughter, and Grandkids to a family reunion brunswick stew yesterday. Stopped to fill up at a gas station with regular unleaded for $2.62 a gallon. Didn't notice until I was starting the pump that 93 octane was $3.55! WTFO? $0.93 more per gallon for high test? Oh well. The stew was good and we enjoyed seeing some of the family.
Washed and polished the M1N1. When I polished the wiper arms, my wife looked at me as though I'd totally lost the plotut:
Topped off the oil in the R53 and flogged it on some backroads yesterday. Followed that up today with a nice bath this afternoon. Now trying to figure out what shift knob to replace my stocker with because the leather is starting to peel off.
Went for a little spin tonite with our British Auto Club. One of our members is a member at a very interesting Art studio, where dozens of locals work on and display their wares. This shot of my Mini is kinda grainy since an iPhone was in play at the time... Nevertheless, this arch is a local piece of history that we thought looked kinda cool at nightfall. Enjoy!
