Drove to work. Wondering why this is post worthy..........5" of fresh snow. Why is this pertinent.........was planning on putting the snow tires on this weekend. :eek6: Was an interesting commute......
GIR had a run in with a Highway Gator last week so we spent an hour or so with an insurance adjuster this afternoon. All cosmetic, so off to the beauty… ah body shop this evening to get the proper bits on order.
New wheels and tires for Max today-----the old Conti DWS that were warranted for 50K miles had about 20K on them and were down to the wear bars, so I switched to some Michelin Pilots - I actually bought them this past Feb cause they were on such a huge sale and they've just been sitting in my garage. With snow headed our way this weekend I wanted to get them on the road..... About the same time as I got the new tires I also bought some "new" S-lites that were take offs in 2005 , I was going to use the old set for my track day tires but I've decided not to do any more track days.....at least with my Clubby. I had my students at school doing the tire swap and one asked me what I was going to do with the old wheels - I told him clean them up and put them on Craigslist - he called a buddy and ten minutes later they were in the back of his car and I had a wad of dead presidents in my pocket! He even took the old worn out Contis - but they were better than what he had on his car, sad to say.... So I'm rollin some new rims and rubber and I didn't have to haul the old ones home to get rid of them - Winning! :cornut:
If you are referring to Pilot Super Sports... I think you will find that you burn through them faster than the DWSs. I've run both. The DWSs have lasted longer than the michelins. Just a heads-up to you.
Well, after the rain stopped around noon, I moved them outside so I could do the floors and get my garage back in order.
Tire Rack rates DWS higher snow traction than A/S 3s. But A/S 3s have significantly better grip in wet and dry than DWS. I got about 35K out of my DWS and still had some tread, although running on wear bars for a while. But I just replaced with A/S 3s due to mostly rain here in the NW. IMO, Grip in both wet and dry seems noticeably better than DWS. I have gone faster around certain curves than with DWS without noise or losing contact. So, Tire Rack tests results seem in line with what I am experiencing. If I lived in Eastern Pennsylvania, I would have a set of Blizzacks on stock wheels for winter and A/S 3s on HD Autobahn wheels the rest of the time.
Well last night. Got the Mini out of the garage drove 40 min. North of town to pick up my youngest daughter. Listin to Pink Floyd's new album as I drove through the night, it was a perfect fit. Picked up my 16 year old and reminded her boyfriend how near death is. Good kid but still a boy dating my daughter. Enjoyed talking to my daughter on the way home. Perfect first night home.
Drove Skooby to Discount Tire for snow shoe balancing. Headed to MAG to pick up old fart buddy Jeff. Then drove to Waldo for a gourmet lunch.
