Discovered that my parking brake cables were not fubar. It was the right rear caliper not releasing the e-brake. A wonderful re-man with a 1 year warranty. Lasted all of 4 months. :mad2:
Hah, you turned 62 today, happy birthday Nathan, and where did 106 miles take you today? Did you drive to Cincinnati for an oil change??? Shame on you. We coulda done that in my shop.....
There is a better street-tire from Kuhmo: Kuhmo XS > Kuhmo SPT No intending as a troll just clarifying. SPTs are great DD tires. 320 Treadwear decent on the noise and good wet traction. Grabbing them for $99/tire is also a good deal. Enjoy!
Arghh...a misplaced space... Oil change cost me $11 in labor only as I brought the oil and filter. Plus they have a lift and let me wander around under the car so I can inspect stuff.
Nathan, you're 2 years older than me? ??? I should have wished you a happy birthday when I dialed your number by mistake today! !!
Nope... you are right. I meant as a daily driver tire. The compound on those gives it a 120 tread wear rating... right up there with a DOT-R tire, if I remember right... just a bit too quick to wear for me and they are supposed to be pretty slippery in the cold (even more so than the SPT, which can be hard to believe sometimes... until I get a bit of heat in 'em, the first few blocks on a very cold day can trigger the DSC several times)
Its amazing how we can spend so much time looking at the underside of our cars when its on a lift standing on our two feet? It looks soooo much different then on your back looking at it?
Well apparently the the Oxford plant workers took a tea break when my MINI was being built. Seems they forgot to shield the oil line from excessive heat blow by from the twin scroll turbo hot side. Sooooooo..... I had to finish the work for them today..... I paid $28.00 for this part, you would think that they would have..... Oh, never mind.... [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]
Item #20 "Heat Resistant Plate" P/N 11657603484 MINI realized there was an issue with heat at the oil line fitting (IT'S NOT A DESIGN ERROR). So they made a production change after my MINI was built. The shield simply covers the delicate fitting from the excessive heat that gets funneled out the heat shield over the turbo scroll (IT'S NOT A DESIGN ERROR)....... Yeah right.....:frown5:
Soooooooo, It keeps that rubber washer from drying out and then leaking oil from the turbo? Sorry for the 20 questions :biggrin5:
Don't know if drying out the seal is the proper description. More like not "cooking" it to an early death from heat exposure. Secondly it also protects the short length of the rigid oil line that would also subject the oil to coking inside the narrow tubing, where the oil starts breaking down from the extreme heat, affecting the oil flow to the turbo bearing.
I have a "pre-rigid" line. I've seen the rigid line and I have a soft tube. Don't know if that matters.
