I tried to finish up a clutch job on a classic Clubby (not Buzz) and everything was going great till I found this..... This is the main bolt that holds the flywheel to the crankshaft, someone got creative and made a self-tapper out of it. If I can't save the threads in the crankshaft, it will be a problem. Odd threads, 5/8-16.....
I decided on my room for the Dragon this year, even called Ghram Country on my lunch break to confirm availability... And its a go! Going to cost exactly $0!
Say Blimey... See'n as how you work at the speed of light, maybe sometime next week after you've finished your Cabrio project, how's about heading out west to spend the afternoon replacing my rear trailing arms, all the bushings front and rear, adding the Greene camber plates and the new struts all the way round. Shouldn't take us more than a few hours and I've got a fridge full'a cold beer.
It needs a whole Mini transplant first....:blush2: It is a 998 rustbucket that needs everything......
Is it the red-ish one you posted pictures of? Pretty sure a Honda swap would knock the rust right off of that one...
Yes.....the guy who owns it will fix the body but I don't think he's planning to upgrade the engine....it should run fine once I get this fixed.
No 'How Cold Is It' thread so this'll do: Frost this morning and slowly rising temp up to 38º, BUT, not a cloud in the sky so down went the top...and a big grin to deflect all the obvious comments.
Yea, I know, Nathan. Just too lazy to hunt for it. This thread was right on top and running the top down is something I did with my MINI today after a string of wet cold windy days. Thanks for the link anyway.
A college buddy of mine use to have the top down all the time unless it was raining or snowing hard. No matter what the temperature was.
11/27 I left with a full tank and drove around speed limit +5 and had no problems. This was from the relatively flat terrain of south central VA 260 miles to the mountains around Asheville, NC. I drove a combination of sport and mid modes. On this leg of the trip I averaged 36.6mpg and 69MPH. On the return leg I will use the green mode exclusively and see what a difference it makes. 12/2 Just got back home. In the rain and less than optimal conditions I got 38.9mpg in the green mode. Averaged 65mph. I like the new cruise control. I set the speed and it stayed within 1-2mph even coming down the mountain today. On my R56 I had to run in 5th gear and still use the brakes on the long down grade. After the fog I ran into in the mountains I'm definitely enabling my rear fogs!
Those two plus drunk idiots throwing empty beer cans in the back seat or my co-pilot whining about the temp (too hot or too cold) loud enough I can't hear the SC are my criteria....if they were throwing unopened beer cans back there, I'd reconsider.
Not so much what I did with my MINI today, but what I did for it in the long run... I am now a full on UN-CLUB member! No more MINI5280 or MINI-COW for me, tired of all the BS that one member has started, so she can have it! About to call Verizon and see if my phone number can be changed as well.
Redid the front brakes. Only halfway through the pads and only 1/3 of the way from full to minimum disc thickness, but a noisy lip developed in my front cryo PowerSlots (pretty annoying grinding sound with low speed braking) and decided to put on another set of Cool Carbon S/T pads and went with the Hawk Quiet Slot rotors this time. All bedded in and back to usual quiet performance now. Tried to get the ATE PremiumOne rotors to match the ones I have on the back, but they don't make the front sets any more and no one has any left in stock. Also tried to get the DBS T3 slotted rotor as they look more like the ATE pattern than anything else, but again, no one has any in stock for the MINI and they're apparently discontinued as well.
