My R50 had to be initialized during its Columbus experience this week. A new battery was installed when the old one just was not providing enough voltage and it messed up the computer. Perhaps that is what you will have to have done to your MINI. I have daytime running lights , so I cannot really be of any help there.
So, why did it go into limp mode? One of the two CVT's I mentioned has done many track days, the other just gets driven - a lot! The key in both case to me is that both have had regular fluid changes at the dealer.
Had a busy day (Sunday). Went on a breakfast drive with the local MINI club. Then worked on sound mixes for two Christmas show performances. I still have my regular day job to go to so very tired.
ALL of my 3 MINIs have been always regularly serviced at the dealer. The R50 in question had the transmission fluid replaced in late March [2015], right before MOTD. The car was proclaimed by MAG [the dealer] as "good to go". We had a good time to, at and on the way home from MOTD, as well as all thru the Summer and early Fall until THIS incident.
the red Mini got some new hatch struts and a fresh air filter this weekend, swapped it's rear seat with my black vinyl seats, washed and waxed it in the driveway (Dec 20 in Wisconsin, I think our climate change skeptics are pretty quiet this month). vacuumed the car, patched the sagging headliner with some fabric spray glue until we can figure out how to replace the whole thing. Cleaned 10 years of plastic outgassing from windows, sun tan lotion from steering wheel and radio volume know. Wasted 2 hours on the built-in garage door opener - it certainly doesn't communicate with the 2007 craftsman opener I have. Then wondered about how to pair a phone with it's radio, given there are phone buttons on the steering wheel. Could not find anything in the manual that talks about that feather. My other 2005 doesn't have these buttons nor does it have a garage opener.
Finished the clutch job on this poor rusted Mini Clubman, found the right front wheel bearing is dead too.....notice how the wheel is canted? It will move that much or more the other way too, it's like the inner wheel bearing is completely missing.
Plans coming together to further mod the car. Got a call from the insurance adjuster concerning the diminished value claim after my dustup with a Tahoe a while back. Didn't get as much as I thought it should have been, but it'll cover the cost of the JCW Pro Tuning Kit. That'll be going on after the first of the year.
I am finally pulling the trigger on Colin's coilovers. Figured I might as well go all in, just waiting to hear back from him. I would be interested in seeing some pictures of your install when you get to it. Always looking to learn.
As we speak, I'm sitting here in the corporate world headquarters of Helix, getting a new set of Koni FDS loaded onto Bedivere.
