I replaced the broken window regulator yesterday and later strapped the bike to it and hauled it to a nearby greenway. It was so nice having working a/c and two windows that open, it was hard to decide wether to leave the windows down or run the a/c.
We replaced one power steering hose (reservoir to pump) - what a pain to get that hose off and back on. The return hose, well, if anyone can tell me how to get that 22mm banjo bolt off the steering box without dropping the subframe, we'll replace that one next week as well.
Friday enjoyed the evening with friends visiting Mike Shank Racing. Mike is a great guy and a dedicated racer! He's working on some really interesting stuff for the future. Saturday I found that you can't heat harden paint on plastic parts. Melted mirror caps will result. Sunday I painted the second set of mirror caps and installed the new amp. The tunes sound much better now.
All plastic parts supplied by MINI / BMW have a stamp somewhere in the injection molding die that identifies the type of plastic used.... This is for their recycling program... Once you identify the plastic, you can get the temperature range the particular plastic can withstand off the internet pretty easily...
Got the required vinyl for my commute on I-95 reinstalled after replacing the windshield a couple weeks ago....
My poor MINI hasn't been driven in at least a week, and I'm still on the road in my rental Dodge SUV. I'll be home for one day Wednesday, and I'm shooting cars at Gaaa... Petroleum Product Primate Shop. The shoot has nothing to do with ANY television show, but certain cable networks are worse than the Phone Police (WKRP in Cincinnati mod), they see EVERYTHING!!! Anyway, I'm thinking I'll get a better parking space in my clean, shiny MINI than in a dirty grey Dodge something from Hertz. Maybe Rich... Um, drahciR will give me a t-shirt. I ain't buyin' one. :biggrin5: CD
But with that on do you get people sitting in front of you just to piss you off? I've had it on other cars but found many people don't bother to look in their mirror. :mad5:
If they don't take the first opportunity to get over... I do. If they were significantly slower than the flow of traffic, or under the speed limit, they usually get the hint after I'm past them. But as long as I don't have to slam on my brakes because you cut me off, I normally don't care. As long as you making the effort to pass, and get back over once completed... I'll stay cool. But if you're that douche-nozzle who sets your cruise control 0.1mph above the speed limit and then proceeds to take 10 miles to complete a pass...... that is when headlights, horns, and gestures start happening.

I gave my Mini to my Daughter for the rest of the week. Since I've got so much free time I was a hand picked volunteer to get her car inspected. I still have about 500 miles of break-in to go on the new motor and her daily round trip commute to work is ~150 miles so I figured I'd let her put a few miles on the car for me. About the only miles I've been putting on the car lately is 25 miles round trip for PT three times a week. She logged quite a few miles on my '07 MCS hauling me to doctors and hospitals last year so I trust her with my new toy. Besides, she's one of about three people that I trust their driving enough that I can sleep when they're behind the wheel. Now I can schedule my first oil change for next week, install my NM power module and start pushing it a little harder. Still hope to get my springs and RSB installed and another alignment before MOTD.
I must confess, I left the MINI at home, again, even though I previously said I would take it to work today. Hey, a my stuff was in the rental car, and it was paid for, so I drove it. Besides, the rental is a Dodge, so I saw an opportunity for a Dodge joke if Richard saw it. :biggrin5: I only saw Richard for a few seconds while I was shooting this car... I never got my chance to crack my Dodge joke. The TV show was shooting on location today, so I got to do my work without the the show's crew and I getting in each other's way. BTW, the network is the "Phone Police," but the Fast and Loud crew is really cool. I don't know any of them by name, and they don't know me, but I try to stay out of their way when they are working, and they try to stay out of mine when I'm doing my job. I couldn't see myself asking for any more than that. CD
Nice looking car, but I think it would have looked better with Baby Moons. Great picture though CD! You do nice work.
Got this today for the MINI... Made in Germany.... Took the black forest elves 5 attempts to get it right... Hope they figured it out this time... Come on guys... we are paying for a product that's supposed to hit the target on the first attempt...
