Dressed up and ran route patrol for a Charity bike ride called Ride For Refuge. 750 riders participated in the Vancouver event that has concurrent bike rides going on in multiple cities across the US and Canada.

Ha Ha! I thought about renting a PODS storage container, but I wouldn't be able to have it delivered until after I close on the house.

We did come up with a solid plan to get everything done, with only 3 plane tickets, and 2 rental trailers...

Hoping to be out of this state and in the new house by February!

    Scalped MINI mod_zpsbbgre7dk.jpg

Replaced the valve cover gasket at 82K... hoping it would solve a P1497 CEL code.

...and what good practice it was for installing the NEW valve cover kit when it comes in next week (I wish ECS wouldn't describe their free-shipping as "no-rush service"). ;-)

It was also nice to remove a valve cover without having a valve adjuster gauge and Allen keys in my hand.

Well not in my current MINI, but I pulled into a parking lot today and found this.

After a couple of seconds I thought, That looks real similar to my first MINI, my 2005 R50.

I glanced thru the window and saw it was a cvt.

Now I had to check. After a quick glance at my smartphone for my old VIN I verified it was indeed the same car.

A little dirtier than when it was mine, but hey - it is a CVT still on the road. And I sold it with 100k+ miles.

I would recognize my first MINI at first glance, but when it sold after I traded her for the R53 I never got to see it again. Out of all the MINIs I've ever seen, there has never been another Jet black on Jet black R50 with the interior only chromeline and anthracite package, the red special cloth/ black leather seats, sunroof, and standard gauge pack... Never even seen one like it at the Dragon. Something tells me now that I once had a really rare optioned R50.

Did yours break where the battery cover is? Mine broke there and I've taped it up but it looks like crap - $70 for a new cover IIRC.

My battery flap is taped on, too. I can live with it.

Back in columbus...Over the weekend, drove from South Dakota to columbus.

Coolant/Temperature warning light popped up, coolant leakage and water pump failed. Got them fixed, replaced under warranty,

Less than $40 at EMINIparts.com. Yes the battery cover was split off. On the right side, one of the tabs was broken on the brake fluid reservoir cover, and I had hacked into the plastic cowl cover/fire wall thingy. In the process of changing out the plastics I found out our bonnet release cables are the easiest to change out of any car I've ever owned :cornut: Sept for my 68 C-10.

As could I, but the rubber that sealed to the wind screen and around the side of the A pillar was breaking up and cracking all over. Next to be replaced is the rubber/plastic stuff along the edges of the wind screen in front of the A Pillar.

Got her fired up this morning and I've been noticing my starter is spinning slower and slower. If I start it shortly after running it's pretty slow, or at least slow enough to get my attention. I've been priming the fuel pump before starting and that seems to help it out, but I'm thinking my OE battery is coming to the end of it's life. The little window is still green but she's gotta be close to the end.

    How old is your battery?

My car is a 2009 and I think this is the year for it too......it's rare to have one last even this long in today's cars.....most are 3-4 year lifetimes now.

I tucked it safely in the garage. With the hurricane bearing down on us, my Jeep Wrangler is the best option for a few days.

4 years old. Checked the CCA's this morning and it dropped down to 7 when cranking, so ya she was toast. I had ordered one from eMINIparts but they had informed me that they cannot ship them so I went to O'Reilly then to Autozone and got one. Went with Duralast Gold(Did you know we can't get Optima batteries for our cars?). Get in the car go to start, and she cranks super slow, then stops. Hada borrow a few tools from the AZ but got it installed and registered via the iCarly app. Good to go!
