Spent some time under the hood of my son's R53 over the last two weeks. 32k miles on a Florida kept 2005 R53 and you'd think everything is peachy... but there's a lot to do. After fixing power steering hoses and headliner earlier this year, this was more of an aggressive maintenance effort. Here's what it took to make it churn like a brand new car. So quiet and smooth compared to my R53... Collant Flush and replaced with 50/50 red stuff o-ring for CPS and dip stick tube replaced, new SC intake gasket (green) SC oil service - old oil pretty dark and with the typical old SC oil stink. Lots of oil in the unit, though, so no leak or wear New upper engine mount and bolt, removed poly inserts from bottom mount New coolant reservoir, heat shield rattle below it fixed with new screw below reservoir and tightening of the other nuts from below - that thing was driving me nuts! Still have a rattle from the resonator part of the stock exhaust at about 1100 rpm or when moving it by hand. Not sure what to do other than to go one-ball mod Fan shroud foam replaced with closed cell foam Low speed fan resistor mod wired up with remote resistor on bumper (with waterproof disconnect) throttle body cleaned Green air filter cleaned and re-oiled Tensioner inspected. Still good until we get down to the crank seal and damper job. Belt only 1k miles old, so not changed.
As fast as it may be...... I've always heard dexcool was crap. Eats away at certain components. Allegedly.
I passed State Inspection and I am EXEMPT for PA Emissions. I got a great deal on really good Winter tires for when I do take my car out in the Winter. You cant beat $ 65.41 per tire. They ride great and fit my needs. From TireRack SUMITOMO HTR A/S P02 (W-SPEED RATED) Size: 205/45R17 88W Sidewall Style: Blackwall UTQG: 500 A A
Mostly price, I think. It's Prestone Dex-Cool. The OEM 11 year old fill that came out of the car was red as well.
After our monthly donut gathering I went down to Columbus Cars and Coffee. There was only one other MINI. Even with all the high end stuff there my car got some nice appreciation.
Well, really... it BLOWS. ;-) Going with these anti-glare convex mirrors as an upgrade. https://www.waymotorworks.com/convex-mirror-glass-r55-r56-r57-r58-r59.html
I saw the driver's side wiggling a few months ago and fixed it before it fell off. No warning on the passenger side. I'll just add it to my list of fixes/improvements on my sell-data sheet.
I had the lens for the center brake light flue off a few years back. Glued it back on and it's been fine since.
You have a Poodoo too? We have (had - I lost my little buddy Noel a few weeks ago) two, Holly will be 16 at Xmas and she's still going strong!
When I first posted this photo someone quipped it was my Poodle blindspot warning system! :biggrin5: We had just come back from playing in the park.....sure miss my little buddy Noel. *sniffs*
