Our flag was out on election day, not what I expected but I can now get on with getting my 11 all pretty. Going back down to Schomp on Thursday to get the front passenger door lock actuator replaced. Last time it was a fuse, now the actuator is dead, thus we know why it blew a fuse early in the summer. I really do not like making 2 trips per month to the MINI dealer on the 11, at least I did buy the extended warranty which covers this stuff. RT is about 80 miles, not my daily desire for a commute, but I do get some interesting loaners of cars I will not buy. Off and away.
My MINI is still in DFW Airport covered parking. Sorry. I promise to pamper it when I get home. I'm in San Jose. I have two more cars to shoot, then on the the airport to wait to find out where I'm going next. Ah, self employment -- the adventure of not knowing where you will sleep tonight. But, when 100-percent of your income is dependent on your own efforts, you do what you gotta' do. I got to re-shoot a car I shot last year under terrible time constraints. 1967 Corvette L88 roadster. A couple-million dollar car. This time, I had time, and by pure luck, it was a cool late-afternoon, and I had a warm lake in the background, giving me some subtle fog over the water.
DFW? Down For Whatever? That looks very much like a Corvette a friend painted in his restoration shop a few years ago.
I remember seeing that car at Campbell Auto Restoration's open house in 2014. They do some incredible work.
Yep, that is the same car. I do a lot with the guys at CAR. Did you see the Shelby Dragon Snake they did? I've driven the L88, but not the Cobra, but I love 289 Cobras (hate the 427s). I felt genuine lust for that Cobra. CD
I'm officially a 1 Mini household as of this afternoon. The new owner is a great young guy and, based on his ear-to-ear grin, will enjoy my R53 for years to come.
Farkin TPMS hell Well it is that time of year again. Yep the low pressure light is coming on in the morning DING! I know the drill so check air reset tire nanny & get on with life. Go for a drive DING WTF!! So I teach Babs how to look at the tires when getting ready to drive anywhere. After a week she asks me can I fix this. Oh well..... Today I drive over to our friends at Discount Tire. John comes out with their scan tool to find which sensor has died. Trouble is his tool is not compatible with our MINI's 433 mhz sensors darn it all. Called a friend that can scan, but he is busy until the 21st. Plan B the nice folks at DT said they'd keep swapping the sensor until they find the right one. I found a good price on line & they will match it. Big thumbs up to them. Monday morning is swap the nanny day. :fingerscrossed: Since I didn't complete my appointed task I stopped on the way home & warshed Babs little clubster. I think that's enough work for one day.
Yes they are originals from 2008 so I'm not surprised one has died. According to the guy at the tire store these seem to die between 7 or 8 years. Terrible design that the batteries are not replaceable. The prices of sensors have come down from what they once were. $49 each now, 6 years ago I paid $75 for one. It seems many makers have gone back to using the abs sensors for the TPMS again.
My odorometer added 3K since my last filter and earl change.... So I changed out both in the shop this morning and put brand new back in....
Hope you saved that still good oil for our friend Justa Jim. Heck it's still good for another 7,000 miles.
Heading home today, pushed the GO pedal a bit (not even WOT).... but the RPM's jumped and then dropped back before spooling up. This has happened a couple times over the last week. So, I guess I have verified that my clutch is slipping. Dang it. 2004 R53, 6 speed, Approx 83k miles.
Had a nice relaxing drive in the MINI with my better half, out to Fredericksburg Ohio... Had lunch at Mrs Yoder's Restaurant.... The Amish sure know how to do chicken... Man was that some good chicken.... Across the street was an Amish horse auction underway.... Some of those horses went for upwards of $10,000... I guess that's the equivalent of "Hot Rodding" their buggies... It was a beautiful day to be out in the country driving the MINI....
I discovered that Everbilt almond color nail covers (from Lowes) match Pepper White perfectly on the NTM (New To Me, 16K) 2013. I also cleaned MAF Sensor and got rid of (I hope) the cold start-up problem on the 2009. Now to find a buyer.
