Today I redid the carpet on my rear seat delete. I am also doing little experiment and have decided to make my own quick detailer. It want to to be like a waterless wash and QD. I am still in mixing SiO2 sealants and in testing phase. My goal is an all in one Super QD with the wet look with super slick SiO2 ceramic protection.
Visited it at the body shop... it's going to be ready for pickup early next week. These guys are top notch and know how to play the game that insurance companies run. Couple of hiccups with parts, but the paint looks fantastic.
Spent a couple of hours taking off the OEM top portion of the turbo heat shield although I cut up my hands getting the bottom three bolts of the shield out. Put the blanket on and so far have only put back 1 of the 3 bottom bolts/washers. Installed the AEM intake and did some modifications to the AEM heat shield, using a bendable ceramic heat shield for the underside of the shield. Also put the oil line shield in place. Haven't been able to drive it because of the ice and snow we've been having.
I had my wife start the screws on the heatshield, when I installed the turbo wrap. My hands just wouldn't fit well between the radiator and the turbocharger.
Great idea about having your wife start the screws...I think I'll try this and see if it works. The blanket/screws were pretty easy to work with except the last two are a PITA!
^^^ Man.... Super offer Dave... That's great that you two live in the Pacific Northwest... Dave's wife won't have very far to drive I imagine... I suppose if I want to do a turbo blanket install, Ohio is out of the picture?
Replaced the battery for the third time in 14 years. I noticed it was cranking just a little bit slower yesterday, so this am I checked the resting voltage (not too bad for a 6 year old battery at 12.3 V in 30F weather), but when I went to do a load test (crank with spark plugs disabled), it just went uhh ..........uhh.............a couple times, then just the clicks and buzzing of truly unusable battery. Got a Deka 647MF like my second battery that I had 6-10 years ago - fits perfectly and it has a little handle built in. Up and running again.
I replaced the OEM battery on my Jan 2009 build Clubman a few weeks ago (8 years!), but I kept the old battery as it still holds 12.6V and it's helpful to have a battery to do testing and what have you around the shop. On really cold mornings it was cranking a little slower than normal but it always started, even at 0*!
Dropped my car off at a friend's service place at 8:00am to have new front brake pads installed. It was snowing. Waited until 9:45am at the bus stop for a transit bus. Went back to my friend's service place and rescheduled the appointment for next week and got my car back and drove to work. Asked 3 other fellow bus waiters if they wanted a ride to the LRT station on my way to my office and they gladly got in. ha ha...two adults in the back seat of a MINI. Don't get me going on the "efficient" or lack thereof bus service in the Vancouver BC area whenever it snows here. :mad2:
Today I whipped up a new batch for Dave.0 detailing spray for testing. DQD.2 The first batch was good as it cleaned very and left a super slick finish but would haze a little after a few hours and I would have to wipe it another time.

Finally went ahead and slapped together what I hope is the final version of my intake. I'm trying to come up with a way to dress up and also seal against the intake tube going into the cowl. What do yall think I can use? I've tried cutting one side old gas line hose but it's too hard and it doesn't seal very well. Thought of maybe some self adhesive foam but that doesn't secure enough to the edges of the hole I cut in the cowl. Thoughts?
