Loving the Cayman tidbits...yum, what a damn fine looking vehicle! Otherwise, I am in the middle of replacing the e-brake cables on my 2004 R53 in MN (corrosion is prevalent) Making progress as the passenger side has been fitted with the replacement cable but not yet adjusted. Hoping to not have to break out the MAP torch for the driver side but its being a PIP not releasing from the caliper...Soaking with PB Blaster....:arf:
This isn't a shot from today, but did a decent detail and this is basically the result on the outside. Getting ready to sell if anyone is interested! Got me a new MINI, it ain't a Metalman Porsche, but I am sure he and I are equally as stoked!
The new dipstick I ordered off of Amazon for $5 arrived. So the broken one has been replaced. Note that the original MINI dipstick has a string or something inside so if it broke (like this one did) I wouldn't have fragments of plastic in my oil pan. I am not sure the new one is like that. So I will probably still go back to my MINI dealer and get an original one. Not sure I want to spend $100 (CDN) for an ultimate dipstick from Cravenspeed or someone though.
Sooo...They went to the trouble of building in a means of retrieval for when the part breaks rather than making one that wont break? : face palm :
Hey, sorry we missed you too - we ran a lot of miles out there in the hills! We based out of Kerrville......
There are some nice roads near Kerville. I assume you did HWY 16 between Kerville and Medina. I haven't driven it in my MINI, but my track-prepped Miata loved it. BTW, I hope you also ate some BBQ. That part of Texas is legendary for Texas BBQ. CD
Did the whole lot of y'all come down from Kansas City? The two area MINI/Mini clubs I run with were driving around the Fredericksburg and Marble Falls area all last weekend, just north of you. The San Antonio group was terrorizing Leakey just last month. https://youtu.be/Zz31DYeddiQ
2 from KC, 2 from Texas, 1 from Oklahoma and 1 from Atlanta, there were supposed to be 3 more, 2 from KC and one "local" San Antonio fellow but life dictated otherwise at the last minute. We ran the sisters, went to Stonehenge, Luchenback, Medina and many places all around there, we were there almost a whole week. We had plenty of BBQ, although being from KC, BBQ is a staple of my diet! :biggrin5: One of the best BBQ places we ate at was the Hard Eight in Stephenville on the way home. BTW, we drove I-44 from Wichita Falls all the way to Tulsa and I will never drive that road again if I can help it, it's bad enough that it's about the worst road I've driven on in these United States, but to pay almost $30 in tolls for the privilege was insulting! We only had one problem with one of the classics, going over one of the cattle grates that was unexpectedly rough, one of the cars got a little air in the back and when it came down it bent a suspension piece in the rear. I was able to find a machine shop open late and he made us a new one and we were back on the road again the next morning with no further issues. Then on the way home the pickup died on the road unexpectedly, it restarted a moment later and ran fine so we carried on, but it died again about 6 more times over the next 100 miles, where I bought a bottle of Heet and poured it in at that gas stop - end of problem. The rest of the way home the car ran perfectly......I don't know where he got the water (I assume it was water in the gas anyway) and no one else had a problem with their cars.....weird. All in all, it was one fun trip!
I changed out the snows on my S and my wife's S today and fixed her MINI FINI cup holder. Tomorrow, the R50 gets its tires rotated for the Dragon and I hope to install a new cup holder in it, too.
Sounds like a great first run. Are you going to bring Dunkler Helm out to the next monthly donut munch?
Got a really nice 'faux marble' treatment for my car... it was FREE, courtesy of the Texas Department of Transportation.
If that ever happens... I thought he was getting a Lotus or Mustang or GP or Classic or something??? Either way I like the name and your P-Car!
I bought the Cooper some new wheels. I've been looking for a long time and finally decided on the 18" OE wheel, I think it's called the style 95, or Spider Spoke design. They are in almost perfect shape except they don't have the center caps...hope they aren't hard to find. Not really sure what size tires though. I bought them more for looks as I doubt I'll ever be tracking the car.
