Nothing it was too cold! I did change out the thermostat yesterday though. Pretty straight forward job and yes the old one had seen better days. So far so good, hopefully that was it.
Size of structure, how it's insulated, temperature required and what type of fuel will enter into what will work for you.
I insulated my 700 sqft garage and put a used pellet stove in it. The stove will warm the garage from below freezing to 70F in about an hour and that is on the lowest setting, a bag of pellets lasts for a day, though I only run the stove when I'm working there.
You must have a detached garage? My shop/garage is under the bedrooms, which really limits what I can do down there.....my lift can only raise a car about 3 ft due to ceiling height, and I can't do any painting or anything that produces noxious fumes. Anytime I run an car I either open the garage doors or back it outside...... With my engine test stand, I roll it over to the back door and stick the muffler out the door. I have a 3 car attached garage. I have a kerosene heater it does a good job of making it it confertable. If it’s really cold I supplement it with a electric space heater.
Today I took my car out to fine tune the new Meth system. Wow is it hard to keep traction on a dry road when it’s 12 degrees.
My car stayed in its detached two-car garage all day. I wish I had thought to insulate my garage when the house was being built, so I could add air-conditioning. A heated garage is not really a thing down here. CD
Yes, it is separate from the house, though it has a small apartment on one side of it. I am planning to add three more bays to the garage side of it this summer.
My MINI is staying in its garage, again, today. Why? Because I am hibernating. It is 25 degrees out there. One year ago, today, it was 70-degrees outside. It's not 70 degrees INSIDE my house, today. CD
It's warmed all the way up to 18* here, but I see the East coast is about to get what we've had the last few days, better break out your woolen jammies over there on the right coast!
Pulled into the office parking lot and looked at my odometer. Wasn't expecting to get here so fast.... It's been a fun ride. I should pass the 240,000 mark on my way to the MINI dealer. After driving a Mazda 3 (that tried to kill us), Mazda 2, Nissan Versa Note, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, she decided she was going to get a MINI so we are going to visit our MINI dealer. A 2013 R56 (last year of that generation) in pretty good shape is slightly above her budget, so I guess bank of dad is going to help her out a bit. If the deal is made, stay tuned for pictures.
Racing slicks don't generally do well in 12 degree weather. You need F1 style tire warmers to keep your baby's feet warm.
Last Saturday, I dropped my car off to get the rust around my right tail light fixed under warranty. MINI of Allentown hooked me up with a 2017 catfish hardtop. The only thing I like about it are the cornering lamps it has. When did MINI start putting those into the headlights?!
On my way down to my local MINI dealership my MINI crossed the 240000 kms milestone. My daughter was so impressed with the reliability of my car, that she went and bought her own (her first car) with her own money. I guess she's graduating from university (this spring) in style. Broke...but in style.
