I got the call from Eric at Helix today that my car is done and has been tuned. I picked up a nice boost in HP for 102,000 service. I had the damn BMW / MINI ECU removed and replaced with a ViPEC ECU with an innovative wide band O2 sensor added to my header. Oh and my Aquamist Meth kit with a 1.0 jet is now controlled with the ViPEC. The car now has two switchable tuns for Meth and no Meth. ( like I will ever run without Meth ) Also upgraded my RMW street Cam with a RMW Grand Am Cam. I have a 17% pulley, stock M45 Supercharger, RMW big valve head and a RMW street header with 550 injectors. Jan of RMW tuned my car on the Helix Mustang Dyno which is nicknamed “the heartbreaker” because it reads lower then dyno jet dynos and it pulled 268 hp at the wheels in a 70 degree room after 20 pulls and full heat soak. I am very happy with the numbers as the whole bottom end is 100% OEM stock with 102,000 miles on it. Let’s see an R56 or F56 do that when they are 13 years old.
K&N released a new version of the Apollo intake I have. I'll be upgrading to the Orion once she gets delivered. The Orion's filter surface area is larger and the base flange has a 76mm diameter up from 70mm which is the main reason I'm upgrading. It's very similar what I have but it'll look better and has an improved flow design.- https://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?prod=54-5000&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInILYvqzx2QIVijyBCh2wfQG1EAAYASAAEgLSKvD_BwEN New one-
It's in. Had a long day of softball today so didn't get to it till around 6, and luckily all the existing connections worked. Just had to trim down that 3" 90. I need to work on a new mounting situation since this one is so much longer. My uncle just picked up a 3D printer, hope he's learned up that software Over all I'm happy with it. Prolly gained like 50 whp. Seriously though, it is a bit noisier than the smaller Apollo was. I'd say louder by 15-20%-ish.
I drove my MINI to a regular client's house to photograph a Ferrari 512TR for sale, and lookie what was in the garage... It is stunning up close and in person. Just off to the left of the photo is parked a Porsche 918 -- the one I shot for a auction cover and posted here about six months ago.
finally got the r56 rear trailing arm conversion done ; all new hardware, bushings, H-Sport adj control arms . bearings, etc......doesn't feel that much different , but worth the weight loss...trying to get the new interior, seats finished up before MOTD (and decide which wheels to run up there this year lol)
Been workin on a mounting solution for the intake. Anyone know much about rubber and how well it holds up in the engine bay? I'd like to use a couple of these mounted to a plate of sorts, I'd hack up the base and only use 1 maybe 2 of those mounting holes -
lol yeah , not many twistys in the lowcountry....the couple of on/off-ramps I've been able to hit at speed feel good though , looking forward to Fontana
IIRC, don't you have some kind of fancy floor in your garage? Maybe carpet? Or was that just a gag? The guy with the LaFerrari has white marble tiles on his garage floor. The garage holds (I'm guessing) six or seven cars with room to walk around them. He is building a "lounge" off to one side (you can see it in the LaFerrari photo) with a glass wall so he and his guests can kick back and look at the cars. I want a garage like that. My MINI deserves a garage like that. Time to go to 7-Eleven and buy a lottery ticket. CD
Will be making a template then cutting a bracket out of some thin plate steel for the intake mount. All will be done with a Dremel and a cordless drill.... Wish I had a shop like some of those guys on Velocity Channel Also, @Sully it's good to see you're getting around to our sponsors! Atta boy
Sad to say I am cutting back drastically on the things I planned on doing before the Dragon. I just completed my first round of radiation therapy and it has kicked the shit out of me. It is what it is and , come hell or high water, I will be there.
Sorry to hear about that, Teddy. I hope it goes well with you and you are back Dragon-slaying in no time! Took the dog for a walk today in my S and then we took a ride thru our snow-covered county roads on our way home. OMG..some areas had not been plowed of the 5-6" inches we got last night. My front end looks like the abominable snowman took a dump! Still, the new Hankook snows I got in Dec. made a huge difference [my Blizzaks were down to about 3/32s], even though I could hardly tell if I was on pavement or not. It was a tad stressful, but then, I'll drive in wintertime snow in my S any day!
Hang in there. I know from personal experience that stuff can really wear you down. My thoughts and prayers for you Sir, and I hope to see you at the Dragon.
