Looks good. Got mine all packed and ready. I’ll be head out at 5am with a stop at MTSU to see my younger son. He can’t make it this year.
Smashed in the front of my car when another car turned left from the oncoming lane RIGHT in front of me. Slammed on the brakes but not enough time or distance to stop. Looks repairable, unless there's something bad going on inside behind the bumper, but the NADA value of a 2003 R50 will probably result in it being declared totaled. If so, I'll have to think about buying it back as a wreck and fixing it anyway or looking for something else. It's in great shape with 6 speed conversion, Quaife LSD, Koni Sports, great summer and winter wheels/tires, etc., so I'd like to hold on to it for a while yet if possible. Other thoughts while I'm waiting to hear an estimate . . . I don't like the F56s, maybe I could find a nice low mileage 2013 R56 MCS if necessary. I probably can't find a nice low mileage 2006 R53, but that's also on the maybe list. Yes, that's my antifreeze in front of the car on the road.
Real bummer. Let us know how that insurance thing plays out. I am about to visit an agent to negotiate a better deal than I am getting with my current insurance that has become complacent about my business and is raising rates again. Nothing done to my Minis in a week, other than Dark Silver rolled out of storage to get ready for the summer. Oh, I did buy a steam cleaner, something I always wanted to use on hard to clean spots under the hood and inside the car. And a shop vac, since I am about to make a mess again when dropping the subframe on the daily driver.
This actually happened yesterday afternoon. Couldn't find a rental car locally today (except a Silverado pickup which I passed on) but have something lined up first thing tomorrow morning. Adjuster looks at my Bliksem tomorrow and will get back to me then or Friday.
Sooo000 last night was driving home in super heavy stop start traffic, and after about an hour of this was finally able to get to a turn that would free me of it. Being somewhat frustrated, I pu the car in Sport Mode, and as soon as the light turned green, launched the car through the intersection.... and suddenly was running on two cylinders. I stopped the car, turned it off and on again, did a quick ODB check and 1 and 3 were not firing. I got the car home (it was less than a mile at this point) and decided to deal with it this morning. I started pulling the coils and checking the plugs, and was able to get three of four removed. I spent an hour trying to remove the coil on Number 2 out, and it wouldn’t budge. I fought and fought, and finally gave up. I decided then to start the car again to see what’s up, and Lo And Behold! 1 and 3 are firing, and now 2 isn’t. I have an old but mostly good set of coils and plugs that I could use for troubleshooting, but since 2 is apparently broken, and won’t come out, I’ve taken the car to the closest Euro garage (again about a mile away). So yeah. Good Morning!
Ouch sorry some dolt ran into you. Have you seen a doctor? Might be a good idea to do that before signing off on any offer given you. Zapski those coils can be a royal pain in the arse to remove. I found swearing in German with a French accent while drinking a Brit brew worked for me.
Got a new rear sway bar slapped on yesterday! She feels better than ever. This one- http://www.detroittuned.com/h-sport-25mm-comp-rear-sway-bar/
I just got it back from the garage - it took the Pros two hours to extract that bloody thing, but they were nice and also bead blasted my plugs for me. I had a box of not-so-old parts to swap in which they generously did for me. They said they’d never seen a coil that badly stuck before. So I ain’t touching it for a while.
I drove the stink out of the Helmet............I also made myself sick..........man I am getting old!
Making my first runs tomorrow. Wish you could hang around longer, but I’ll see you on the Donut run. I think I’m going to make the short run also so I can help out at the tent before the Pitts-Burger run. Eli and I will be stopping by to donate to the food bank too..
Adjuster says $8000 without even opening the hood, well over twice the value of the car by their estimates. Will be looking at a fairly unique but slightly overpriced 2009 JCW Clubman in great shape with less than 30K on the odometer after work today. There's also a pricey 2013 JCW Clubman S nearby with only about 10K but it's godawful gaudy. I have a few more leads if the first one's not right. for me.
Take some Dramamine old man! This year I hit the dragon harder than I ever have. Even ran with a group of fast bikes for a few miles after the new rear sway bar was installed... I kinda slid to the edge of the road on one of the corners so I decided to let them go after that Twas a blast this year.
Zapski anti-seize is your friend. In the old days plugs & wires were changed often so they never seemed to get stuck. With these modern cars the plugs & coil packs are in there for a long time so the stuckage thing is more common. Wow the shop says your stuckage was the worsest they'd ever seen. Good to know you are driving a record setter.
