DOH? Dallas. I was answering a question from a member from DFW. You are welcome to come next year, Dave, but I don't know if it would be worth your drive time.
The Helmet got a bath. My Indian sprung a leak in the left gas tank. I think I found a hire-line crack and patched it.
Got up and cleaned my MINI inside and out from a week at the Dragon. The inside was dirty but the outside was trashed from driving home Sunday. I headed out of Fontana at 5 am and drove all the pay back to SE PA. It was raining, very foggy on hellbender and the Dragon and it was covered with leaves and junk. It was a great sunny ride in TN, VA, WV, MD and then in PA it’s started pouring and stopped 2 exits before I got off. I don’t think my car has ever been that dirty.
what do you need protection from? "Ze Germans?" Definitely a matter of personal preference. It certainly annoyed me enough to want that changed. By disabling the double button to open the passenger door and hatch option, I gained "comfort entry" as a new "feature." My car will now roll down the driver side widow after two pushes and a touch of the driver side door handle to make entry easier in tight spots. It isn't the same as the long push to open all windows and sunroof - that was always on. It just opens driver window so you can squeeze your upper body into the cab easier when the door only swings open a few degrees. Will I ever need it? Doubt it, plus I will likely forget or just roll down all windows to get in if I should park in such a door-ding situation ever. I also disabled the "lock yourself out of your own car" auto-lock after 2 minutes unless a door is opened "security" option. For some reason the rear hatch doesn't seem to register as a door on my cars, so when I unlock, load the boot with groceries, shut the hatch and walk the cart back to the corral, it locks itself, even with the key I have accidentally placed inside the boot... My blue car only has one key, so any locks itself feature isn't on my desired options list.
That GP owner cannot wash his MINI. He is mostly in a walker or in a wheelchair, due to car wreck injuries. He can drive, and has been to the Dragon ever since its inception. He just can no longer stand long enough to wash his car.
There's drive thru car washes. A life long buddy of mine's Dad is paralyzed from the waist down due to a bad wreck and still washes his hot rod (it's an old Cuda, he needs to let it rot and I told him that ) and the wifes DD while sitting in a wheel chair. That said, the MINI community is friendly enough that several of us would gladly wash it for him, I'd even give it a good polish. Tell him to swing by Dave's cabin next year and we'll (or just me) get his GP looking like it should. I'll even lend him Bitsy's fine ass as a loaner while the GP get's cleaned.
I wondered what was up with that GP. If I had know I would have washed it for him. Us mini people should stick together.
You are good people to offer to clean that guys car for him. It could be pride that keeps him from asking for help or a sadness that he can't do it himself. Many times people with handicaps feel left out by the community & just exist on the margins. It's great that he has a fun car & brings it to the dragon. Next time ask him if it would be OK to clean his GP. I bet he'd be happy to let you & maybe even buy you a beer.
His cabin is right across from the entrance to vendor's row. If you were so interested, I'm sure you would have seen the car in his driveway and him sitting on the front porch and given him some crap about his dirty car.
I wasn't interested in cleaning his car for him prior to you telling me he's unable to clean it himself. We watched him drive by Dave's cabin a couple times and figured he just neglected his car. Since yall are such good friends and you know he can't clean his car I'm surprised you haven't helped him out.....
I took Checkers for a little run today. It had been some time since it's been out in fact I had to charge the battery and pump up the front tires they were down to about 25lbs from setting.
I saw him pull into Fontana and asked him when he was gonna wash that filthy car, that it was the sorriest GP I had ever seen. He told me why and said, "WHY? It's just going to get dirty again on the way back to Florida". Then he told me his sig other and he had had a lovers spat prior to his leaving FL and that SHE is the one who normally washes it, so he was hoping that she'd do it when he returned. He always drives by Dave's cabin, since he usually does early morning and late evening runs thru the Dragon. He and his former g/f were the originators of "Midnight on the Dragon", and they were members of MKO...MINI Koopers Offline, the original group that started this all. His name is Pat.
Found a fun back road OTW into work this AM. It's about 25 minutes out of my way but it's worth it to hit some curves and burn a Tundra that thought he could hang. After a few corners he stopped trying
