Thanks @Dave.0. My AC Is making a incredible loud roaring noise. I am going to order parts for the R53 today.
Put in the pump yesterday. Old pump and new pump seemed about the same in function, except the motor on the old one ran faster when tested with a 9V battery and with the car's 12V, and had 40 ohm resistance vs new one at 110 ohms from pin 1 to pin 4. Solenoids both worked fine, and heaters had the same 30 ohm resistance on both. Can't seem to get the evap readiness code to complete despite doing drive cycles, but my scan tool does show the new pump working and pulsing during a test period and no codes so far, whereas the code was coming back pretty quickly with the old pump. Checked out the carbon canister well while it was out, too. I was down to about a quarter tank so I did add 4 gallons to get it a little over half a tank and started with a cold engine so that the evap test would run during a drive cycle. Fingers crossed that it's fixed now. Also got a couple of the lower radiator hose hanger clamps to hold it up against the radiator base as the old ones were shot (actually one broken and one missing) and the hose was drooping.
If the sound is coming from the AC compressor under the Alternator don’t drive far if at all. Mine made a ticking sound one day and the next day it seized and broke the belt on a 10 minute trip. I am sure you know when the belt goes the Alternator, SC & Water pump all stop working and overheating is a real concern.
Justa bought some new brake pads for Babs justa clubster. They are the Dave O highly recommended EBC Red-Stuff pads. Two thumbs up for Aaron at Outmotoring.
Finally got the evap monitor cycle to complete and no CEL or even pending codes. Next weekend has oil and filter change, brake fluid flush, and Powerflex yellow lower engine mount bushings on the list, weather permitting.
Installed one of these in the boot last night since I'd rather use it to power my rear camera instead of one of those plug in deals that would (and did) fall out all the time. Also dropped the headliner to tighten up the antenna. Again. She's not coming loose any more
On the Amazon. There is cheaper options available, but I stuck one of these in the rear of our F-150 for the same reason and am happy with the quality. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073NCMTQL/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Update-This is the one I stuck in the truck. Both seem to be the same quality and power wise- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B724RGS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I ran a few errands today in the MINI. The electric fan ran for a LONG time after I got home. It got up to about 106F today. It is 104F right now at 6PM. I have my oil topped off, as well as coolant. That's about all I can do for my MINI. I really wish I didn't have that big double sunroof. Even with the darkest tint you can get, it still battles with the AC when it gets this hot outside. The AC keeps the car comfortable, but I have to run it full blast. CD
Hey CD. Try a set of Zippee Shades. That’s what I used on my R56 and they worked really well. You can even leave them in place when you open the sunroof.
They are nice to have. I'm trying to cover my pano roof glass in stickers so I wont need to use them any more
5% tint works great. Oh and yes you can tint the sunroof and the glass will not break. That is an old myth. Mine has been done for over 10 years now without any issues.
I had a perforated Union Jack put on my sunroof, It allows 25% of light through. The interior doesn't get too hot on sunny days.
CD check that the cabin filter is clean. Once they get full of carp they limit the amount of air available. It could also be that you have lost some refrigerant over time. I've had a dark limo tint on the sunroof since we got Skooby & it's not been a problem.
My cabin filter is only a few months old. I'm sure it is fine. The air coming out of the dash vents is cold, too. It is just so hot out. I'll look into the zipper shades. Thanks! CD
I had a new cabin filter and one day, there was a funky smell and no air flow, a mouse had built a nest on my cabin filter. I renewed the filter and put a screen on the air intake, under the cowl.
