As for today, I drove my car in the rain... for the umpteenth time this month. It is supposed to be sunny on Friday, so I have my appointment booked for a State Inspection. I'm glad I have an appointment, and a loaner car lined up. Next week is going to be hell for people doing drive-ups for State Inspections. It's going to be worse than the DMV. CD
Not today, but Tuesday. New winter shoes & wheels for Babs little Skooby, Michelin IceX 3. The TPMS sensors gave the guys at Discount Tire fits. Two of the darned things kept leaking. They gave up & stuck in two new sensors & gave them to me at NC. They are a great place to buy tires. Please excuse this filthy MINI.
Oops....something broke on the Countryman. Wife hit a curb and the Flat tire light came on immediately, even though the tires are not flat. Also, a loud grinding noise on the front. Tow truck guy thinks she broke an axle. From the description, it sounds more like a broken CV joint on the axle...so an axle. It got towed (Flat decked) to the dealer service center. I will drop by later to have a look. MINI dealer says they will try and get it through as a warranty claim. But since the wife hit a curb, it might be an insurance claim. Of which we bought new car replacement insurance. Hitting a curb should not break an axle on an SUV so hopefully, the warranty sticks. Ugh...
Good luck, I hope it isn't that bad. The wheel speed / ABS sensor probably is damaged causing the flat tire nanny to shine her light.
I just went down and took a look. It looks like a transmission mount broke and the engine is sitting on top of the drive shaft. The shock tower looks like it hit the hood or something. Can't really tell there is any damage looking at it, but the engine does look to be sitting lower than it should be.
Sounds like your wife's MINI may have to go to the frame shop to get everything lined back up. I'm sure it will be fixed as good as new. Don't be too hard on your wife, these things happen. Most important part is she is okay. The MINI can be fixed.
I got my new power steering pump installed today at Helix. Mine was dying a slow death and did not realize it was about 75% dead.
Had a new windshield installed. I requested a genuine MINI windshield, but didn't get it my way. That night I proceed to stick on a new eyebrow. I've tinted windows for YEARS and have never scratched any glass with a blade. I now have a few nice long scratches in the black area of the glass. Is it possible that the new glass is "softer" than the OE? It's not THAT noticeable, but I notice it. Ordered a new blade in hopes that my previous wasn't the correct composition for cutting tint on glass.
Years ago, it was better to have American glass installed instead of European glass windshields. The American glass was better. I don't know if that is still true today. CD
My MINI passed state inspection. New oil and filter, too. They even washed and vacuumed it. Of course, they found "things" I should "consider" servicing. One was an oil leak (well, "seepage) on a gasket that was replaced by them in 2015. Another was the battery "sounds" weak. They wanted to charge money to test it. The battery is about six months old, and I can get it tested for free just about anywhere. But, with coupon, I paid 60-bucks for a good oil change by a competent technician. And, nothing failed inspection. CD
My R53 is on Windshield #7. This is the first windshield that is not an original MINI windshield and it has been on my car 6 years. It does have 1 rock ding on it. I filled it and it is still visible, but it has not spread. The ding has been there 3 years now.
When I had the windshield replaced on my R53 it was Pilkington glass. Seemed as good or better than the oem glass. Seems to me that the MINI screen is very susceptible to rick dings & pitting due to its upright stance. Hey I used the word stance. I'm now a part of stance nation.
Pilkington glass is so much petter than crappy OEM glass. You should never cut window tint film on the glass.
It would appear my Continental DWS 06s on the 2011 are at 4/32, so time for a set of new tires. Nice thing, Discount Tire is getting me a set of the Vredsteins in 215/55/17 for the 2011 and allowing me $160 discount on the set due to the tires are only 3 years old and have about 31K on them, I find it interesting they allowed the discount on another brand of tire. OK by me. Discount is getting this set from the local Discount Tire warehouse, getting a little better price than I can and passing it along to me. Sigh! Now to get the check eng. phantom fixed, it is off right now, but it is associated with the vanos exhaust sensor which appears to be intermittent. I find it funny, the 11 is getting it's best mileage ever with this flag and normally gets 24 to 26 in the city, but is now averaging over 30 city. Wonder, should I get it fixed or ignore. Don
Yes no cutting tint on glass. I had a window tint done on my 4Runner years ago & the doofus cut the tint on my windshield. Left a nasty mark from one side to the other. They ended up buying me a new windshield.
I did nothing...except start looking for a MINI project that someone started and didn't finish. I want a standard shift car. And I'm cheap....
Been a while since I have been on here. Threw some lowering springs on the R53 today. Nothing too extreme, just a good enough drop. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
