24 hours ago, I knew nothing about bees. Now, I know more than I ever wanted to know. Well, sort of -- I'm still a bit fuzzy on the details, but have the general idea. The best case scenario was a swarm doing "scouting" for a new place to live. Worst case was a full nest of honeycombs inside the walls of my house. My case turned out to be an active nest, with beeswax and honey, but in a soffit. So, the beekeeper was able kill them without doing any damage to the house -- two holes drilled into the soffit. BTW, if they find wax and honey, they know the queen is there. They kill the queen, the rest of the bees die. Now I can focus on more important things, like getting my MINI fixed and washed! CD
Really, they didn't try and remove the swarm and nest and rehome it? I'm a little surprised...… About the R56 lights, they were a significant improvement over those in the R53 series cars....the ones in my 2003 were only a tiny bit better than Halogens. The ones in my Clubman are terrific.
My R53 had HID low beams, but the high beams were a halogen bulb. I augmented the high beams with a pair of Hella 500 driving lights with 100w bulbs. My wife's R55 has Bi-Xenon & they are great. Sorry about your bee infestation. Glad they weren't africanized buzzers. Many moons ago I came home from work & heard a strange buzzing coming from an exterior wall. Figured out where they were & called the exterminator. He wouldn't touch them but gave me the number of a bee keeper. The bee keeper told me he could capture the queen & the hoard would follow her to the new home. Trouble was to get the queen he was going to have to rip the siding off my house. No that ain't happening. Mixed up a tank sprayer of diazinon & at last light of day I sprayed it in the little front door they were using. Next morning no buzzing & many dead bees laying on the ground. I figured the dead bees under the siding acted like insulation & kept me warmer in the winter. Bees are very beneficial.
No, they would have to do some significant demo on my soffit and eave to remove the nest. And, thanks to you and Dave for the headlight info. CD
Couldn't you just squirt car shampoo on the car and leave it in the rain? It would be kind of like a touchless car wash!
I've decided to do NOTHING [aka NADA] to any of my MINIs anymore, other than to keep them healthy with proper maintenance. They have all the mods I want to install and, besides, their age pretty much makes it a waste of time. They are all Gen 1s and range from 12 to 16 years old. Gone are the days or prepping for weekends at Mid Ohio or Putnam Park with BMWCCA and after next year, MOTD will become a memory, too.
Believe me...I know the feeling. While certain activities get harder and some impossible (wrenching), other activities get easier. Relaxing and enjoying the drive...time spent relaxing with friends...and just looking around and smelling the roses. Keep involved, keep going forward and learn to enjoy life more. It works if you let it....
I ordered the Detroit Tuned "Super Kit" for the gaskets and oil lines for my fantastic new leak. Today looking thru the Bentley Manual I can't find any info on the removal of the Oil Filter Housing or any torque specs. Does anyone know where they have it hidden in there?
I think I've know you for 10 years or so. Every one of those years you say this MOTD will be my last one. Heck man keep on trucking & get yourself & those stinky stogies down to the dragon. Smell the roses Jeff, they smell like Cuban's.
Took apart and replaced the cv axle boots and bearings on the cv axles Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Nope. My facelifted R53 has xenon headlights for the lowbeams only. They are not bi-xenon. Highbeams are halogen H7 bulbs. I installed a set of Philips Crystal Vision Ultra bulbs on my car. I thought only replacing the burned out bulb, but noticed the new bulb is much whiter than the stock bulbs, so I installed both and kept the bulb that still works as an emergency spare.
Is it difficult? The stealer wants close to $1000 CDN (which isn't that much in the US but a lot in Canada) to replace both axles on my car.
Nope. sorry to say it, but this will be the 15th Cigar Salon at MOTD in 2019. That's a good place to stop. My grandpa used to say: 'always leave a party when you are having fun. Tthen, there will be no regrets for having overstayed and the party has gotten stale in the meantime'. Intelligent man, my grandpa, and I have always followed his advice. I'll miss the event, for sure, but I will NEVER miss the drives down and back in those on again/off again crappy weather conditions.
