Teddy, I enjoy life and the health God has given me, even though my cigars stink up His Heavens. I think God loves the atmosphere of a good stick or two. I saw on the news today that the Government wants to outlaw menthol cigarettes, citing that they are the hardest to kick the nicotine habit with. I've been saying for awhile now that smoking at Fontana is also an endangered, albeit sinful, pleasure. I can see Fontana outlawing smoking in all the public venues in the next few years...
I had never done it before. Hardest part for me was putting the cv boot clamps on without the right tool for those. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Definitely easier with a lift. I dont fit too good under the car. Lol Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
I put my Dark Silver on dollies and rolled it into the back of the garage for the season. I drove the thing a total of 246 miles this year. Not the cheapest car per mile State registration here is $108 now, add about $350 on minimal insurance, and about $1200 in parts and other stuff I bought for it, and you get a pretty good idea of the per mile total. That 3/4 tank of gas I used this year doesn't even register as a cost factor.
Put the snows on the two R53s today, as the weather tonite thru the rest of the week seems to want to be wintry. The R50 will stay in the garage, as I only drive it in the wintertime when it's a sunny day and the roads are clear.
Skooby the clubster is in winter mode. My justa GTI will stay in the garage until the roads dry up. Babs fly's to LA tonight so Skooby is all mine for the week.
I bought my MINI as a daily driver, so I've done NO mods to it. I just do all the proper maintenance. So, I guess I am way ahead of you. CD
My MINI was a daily driver for years and I still modded it and drove it everyday. Our work closed our local office so I have been a virtual employee working from home for years. That’s why my yearly mileage is so low. I only did 3,400 miles last year but the car has a total of 104,000 miles on it. Also when I do drive it I beat on it and enjoy driving it because that’s what I built it for.
Definitely drive mine every day too. When I do, I drive it pretty hard too! Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
My hobo take on large removable cupholders over useless stock ones. Fugly, I know. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
I worked in education for 30 years. When I retired in 2002, I wanted to get a car like my very first one, a used 1959 Morris Mini Minor, but the Minis of my youth were no longer sold. I bought a very nice, used R50 and put in a cai and a catback, to remind me of the first car, I guess. Then, I joined NAM because at the time, M/A was just a gleam in someone's eye. It was in NAM that I started hearing about the Tail of the Dragon and went there for the first time in October, 2004. After a few years of Dragon-slaying in my under powered but nimble R50, I bought my first R53 [new in '06] as my daily driver, but by that time, I REALLY wanted it as a weekend track car, so I modded it for the track. I still use it as my daily driver, though...just a very fast one. In 2012, I found a bone stock R53 with only 26k on it and bought it for my wife. It's still bone stock but is fast approaching 85k. All three of my MINIs are well maintained and I'm happy with the choices I made. I am 72 now and plan to keep them all until they either fall apart or I give up my license. It's all in age, CD, and in that, I am STILL way ahead of you.
Want to do the same with my shift boot, man. Is it for the audi? Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
But we also know MINIs are meant to be driven and they love to be flogged. Especially the R53/R50 generation. Have you driven an R50 5-speed? It lacks a bit in power, but the engine begs to be revved and the car loves to be driven as hard has you can. Most MINI drivers (not all, but most) run out of skill far before they hit the performance limits of their MINIs. Keep your MINI in good condition and he (or she?) will reward you for it.
Winter snowtires are on. Seems there is a move towards all-weather tires as my tire guy is telling me he sells tons of them. My current snowtires are still good for at least another winter but my kid has all-weather tires on her car. Seems the outside edge blocks are similar to all season tires so they preserve dry weather cornering ability. But the rubber compound is a winter tire compound.
Let us know how those all weather tires work out on your daughter's MINI. You are the first person I've heard mention those. Saw a piece about tires on MotorWeek & they mentioned them & showed they carry the mountain symbol on the sidewall. I've always used dedicated snow tires, but it would be nice not to have to do that seasonal change on my wife's MINI. Getting old & lazy I guess.
I have had good luck with all season tires in the snow here in Western Washington, but we only get a few snow days a year here and sometimes not at all.
